Noah’s Ark, UZMAR’s Tug
The Origins of UZMAR
The animal kingdom has been a major source
of inspiration for human beings throughout
history. From cavemen’s drawings to ancient
myths, traces of this inspiration prevail, to
which undoubtedly, the legend of Noah’s Arc
sets the most outstanding example. As the
legend is told, God decides to diminish life on
earth in a catastrophic flood to punish human
beings. Still, as a devout believer, Noah is
given a chance: God orders him to build a
boat large enough to hold one male and one
female of all animal species. Noah follows
this order…and after the flood, his boat goes
ashore on Mount Ararat.
In 1984 the first privately owned pilotage and
towage company, UZMAR Shipping Ltd., was
founded in Turkey bu seniour Harbour Pilot
Capt. Altay Altug, commencing port services
in various private ports and harbours on the
Aegean Sea, Turkey.
We at Uzmar are likewise inspired by the
perfect and unique features of the members
of the animal kingdom, combining them
with cutting edge technologies and aim for
perfectness and uniqueness in each and
every tug we build.
In 1996 UZMAR Shipping Ltd. started to build
workboats for its own fleet requirements and
later for international markets using compact
tug designs from Robert Allan Ltd., an
internationally recognized naval architecture
company from Vancouver, Canada.
Through the achievement of building
numerous tugs and workboats, in 2007
UZMAR established a modern shipbuilding
facility at Kocaeli Free Zone, near Istanbul,
Turkey with an advanced shipbuilding system
of station based serial production method.
The project management is organized by
means of Enterprise Resource Planning ERP (IFS) system which integrates design,
planning, production, procurement,
warehousing, project coordination and
commercial and financial information.
Due to the success of UZMAR’s
advanced modular building system
the shipbuilding facility is referred as
‘Workboat and Tug Factory’.
Sturdy, Agile and Fast
Horses are a natural phenomenon,
symbolizing power for their magnificent
physical features, agility for their incredible
maneuverability and speed – adults can reach
up to 60-70km/hr.
Known to befriend and serve human beings
for over 5500 years, horses are among the
most skillful creatures of the world. They
are not only sturdy but also bold and stout
and will continue to pull heavy weights to
exhaustion.
Building Excellence to Your

King of the Rivers
Crocodiles sit on the top of the food chain
in and around rivers and wetlands in warm
climates and are unquestionably the king of
both shallow and deep waters for their highly
gifted ability of movement and swimming
skills. Sharp and strong rows of teeth certainly
make their jaws invincible. The snap their
powerful jaws around their prey – exerting a
force of up to 200 kg - and dive into the depths
of water to drown them. Crocodiles move at a
speed of up to 12m/s when hunting, with their
sturdy bodies, hind legs and muscle-bound
tails.
Leading by Custom-Built
and On-Time Projects
Most of our new building orders are from
owners with a specific towage service contract
where the tugs need to be in the operational
area within a certain time. The company
earned its reputation for its modern serial
production method resulting in exceptional
quality and on-time delivery.
UZMAR Workboat and Tug Factory is capable
of constructing modern harbor and ship assist,
terminal, escort, rotortugs and offshore
tugs and supply vessels; shallow draft utility
workboats, shallow draft river pushboats,
line-handling and harbour-support tugs of any
power range whether having direct diesel or
diesel electric or hybrid propulsion technology.
These vessels include Robert Allan Ltd.’s
RAmparts, RAstar, Rampage or Rotortug
series tugs and offshore vessels orprojects
with proven propulsion systems of twin-screw
steerable nozzles, ASD, Rotortugs or Voith
Schneider technology.
Masters of Agility in the
Western Hemisphere
Nature’s most vicious hunters, jaguars
are the most powerful cats in the Western
Hemisphere. Their paramount physical
features make them not only powerful but
also fast and agile. Evolution has given them
a great gift: a sturdy jaw that makes them
the perfect hunter. They owe their power not
to their size but their immaculate muscle
structure, enabling them to pull a 300-500 kg
kill up a tree. Their muscle-bound legs also
make them a superb swimmer.
Owners’ Personnel Training
During building or after delivery highly
qualified UZMAR field engineers and captains
provide a free in-house and/or onboard
technical and operational familiarization and
scheduled maintenance training programs
for Owners’ captains, engineers and crew.
When required, the same scheduled training
program can be provided abroad at worldwide
locations.

Immaculate Vision
Absolute king of the skies, the eagle has
immaculate vision to detect its pray from
miles away, as it graciously glides among the
clouds. These perfect hunters are larger and
stronger than any other predatory bird. The
eagle’s curved beak, muscle-bound legs and
powerful claws are unrivaled. Their curved
beaks help them rip off the flesh on their
prey, while their muscle-bound legs and
powerful claws seizing it allow them to fly off
with much larger prey compared to their size,
carrying it long distances.
Human-Centered Design
for Increased Productivity
UZMAR develops innovative in-house detailed
designs of living spaces onboard the tugs
integrating the harmony of crew and the
functionality of onboard systems respecting
environmental values and positioning the
human element in first place with a functional
and modern style.
While required, UZMAR innovative design
group works in close cooperation with tug
captains, crew and their unions in developing
individual solutions for crew safety and
fatique management.
The result is always the best optimized
human-centered spaces free of ergonomic
and psychological concerns for increased
crew productivity.

Outstanding Performance
Under Tough Conditions
Polar bears are extremely powerful predators
that have successfully adapted themselves to
the impossible conditions of the snow-bound
shores and the northern polar ice cap through
their sturdiness and agility. They have
powerful extremities perfect for swimming
and front paws that serve as flippers. Polar
bears hunt just as comfortably on land and
ice as in water. They can easily break through
the Arctic ice using their sharp claws when
hunting for seals.

Mesmerizing Strength
The ancient inhabitants of Sub-Saharan Africa
and Asia, elephants are by far the largest and
most powerful animals on land. Their strong
snouts and teeth symbolize potency. For this
reason, elephants have been frequently used
in arts, folklore, religion and literature. The
elephant’s long and mighty snout is their most
impressive feature. It uses its extra-long and
sharp teeth for carrying things and digging
the soil.

Unrivalled Perfection
The tallest animal on land, ranging between
4-6 meters, the giraffe is a wonder of nature
with its feeding habits due to the shape and
characteristics of its body. To stay alive,
the giraffe’s heart needs to pump blood
around 2 meters to reach the brain due to its
extra-long neck. This of course, requires an
extraordinarily powerful heart: The giraffe’s
hears is around 60 cm long and weighs 11,8
kilograms, powerful enough to pump blood at
a pressure of 350 mm Hg.
In-House Design and

A Versatile Predator
Largest of oceanic dolphin family, the killer
whale or the orca is a magnificent creature
and a versatile predator. The name “Orca”
was coined by Ancient Romans. Since
then, the killer whale has been a center of
attention for the humans. It is renowned for
the blowhole through which exhalation is
released into the comparably lower-pressure,
colder atmosphere, and any water vapor
condenses. This spray, known as the blow, is
often visible from far away as a white splash,
which can also be caused by water resting on
top of the blowhole. The orca’s weight ranges
between 5-6 tones. Nevertheless, they are
great springers.
The Way UZMAR Works Zero Harm Workplace
As a corporate policy UZMAR is undoubtedly
dedicated to comply with most stringent
local and international Health, Safety and
Environmental standards to ensure that an
utmost HSE - compliant building process
is achieved, not only for our workers,
subcontractors or the social
environment, but for our
customers as well.
A Formidable Competitor
Low-flowing rivers of any size with a bank
and a beach are perfect habitats for the
hippopotamus. Its powerful teeth, gigantic
size and speed can easily compete with the
elephant. The weight of a hippopotamus
ranges between 2700 - 4500 kg. Despite their
huge body, it can reach a speed of 48 km/hr.
The hippopotamus has perfectly adapted to
aquatic life. Hippos spend most of their time
immersed into the river up to their nostrils
and can remain head under water for 10
minutes with nostrils tightly sealed.
