CALCULATING ROTATION SPEED (RPM) BETWEEN MOTOR AND AIR PUMP Diameter: 5 inches Diameter: 10 inches MOTOR AIR PUMP CALCULATING THE ROTATION SPEED OF AN AIR PUMP What you need to know: 1º 2º Pulley diameter Motor rotation speed (Example: 1750 rpm) Calculation Method: 1º Rotation speed ratio (pulley ratio) is defined as follows: The motor’s pulley diameter ÷ The air pump’s pulley diameter = 5 in. ÷ 10 in. = 0.5 in. So, when the motor pulley has completed 1 full turn, the air pump’s pulley will have completed only half a turn. 2º Pump rotation speed is defined as follows: 1750 rpm (motor’s rotation speed) X 0.5 (pulleys’ ratio) = 875 rpm CALCULATING THE MOTOR’S PULLEY DIAMETER REQUIRED FOR MAXIMUM ROTATION SPEED OF AIR PUMP You need to know: 1º Air pump pulley’s diameter (Example: 12 1/2") 2º Air pump’s maximum acceptable rotation speed (Example: 850 rpm) 3º Motor’s maximum rotation speed (Example: 1750 rpm) Calculation Method: Motor’s pulley diameter = Air pump’s maximum acceptable rotation speed ÷ Motor’s rotation speed X Diameter of air pump pulley = 850 rpm ÷ 1750 rpm X 12 1/2" = 6"
