A new health care experience is coming to
your community. By late 2011, St. Luke’s
Riverside, located at Freemansburg Avenue
and Route 33 in Bethlehem Township, will
open its doors to the first patients.
St. Luke’s Riverside will provide convenient
access to a family-friendly emergency
department, leading-edge medicine, new
operating rooms, a cancer center and medical
office building, and some of the world’s most
advanced health care technologies in healing
and environmentally-sensitive facilities.
"Construction of St. Luke's Riverside will
be complete later this year. This location
will offer a full range of health care services
and is easily accessible from Route 33,
Freemansburg Avenue and I-78."
— Anita Kingsbauer
Executive Director, Riverside Campus
Built for a better experience
St. Luke’s Riverside is being designed to
provide safe, efficient, patient-centered
and affordable health care in a natural,
aesthetically-pleasing environment.
Constructed with natural materials such
as brick and stone, its large windows will
provide abundant daylight and showcase
the beautiful landscape that surrounds
the campus.
While the campus will have visual appeal,
the most important feature will be the
human experience. St. Luke’s Riverside is
being thoughtfully planned to provide a
better experience and unmatched customer
service for patients and visitors, and the
highest quality and safest care in a setting
that enlivens the senses.

Quality Emergency Care
At St. Luke’s Riverside Hospital
ClosER quality care for life’s
emergencies
Quality emergency care will soon be
closer to home when the Emergency
Department at St. Luke’s Riverside
Hospital opens to the community later
this year. The Emergency Department
at St. Luke’s Riverside Hospital will
be family-centered and have boardcertified doctors and trained emergency
room nurses to manage serious medical
conditions such as abdominal pain,
shortness of breath, broken bones,
lacerations, high fevers and other
conditions that require immediate care.
The Emergency Department at St. Luke’s
Riverside Hospital will feature two triage
bays for rapid assessment of emergencies
and 14 exam and treatment rooms, four
of which will be dedicated as Fast Track
rooms for minor illnesses and injuries.
To provide optimal care for critically-ill
patients, St. Luke’s Riverside Hospital
will have an eight-bed Intensive Care
Unit with advanced monitoring
equipment. The unit will be staffed by
critical care nurses for patients with
more serious health concerns.
BettER imaging with less
radiation….
State-of-the-art imaging technologies
from GE Healthcare will be available
in the Radiology Department, adjacent
to the Emergency Department. These
advanced systems from GE Healthcare
offer significant benefits, including highdefinition images and reduced radiation
exposure to the patient. Emergency
radiology services will be available
round-the-clock. St. Luke’s staff includes
board-certified and fellowship-trained
radiologists and sub-specialty registered
technologists.
What you can expect…
• All-digital X-ray systems from GE
Healthcare to expedite diagnosis, care

the human body as small as a grain of
sand in a single rotation.
• Wide-bore MRI to offer
uncompromised image quality and
comfort for virtually all patients, even
larger patients, during a scan.
• Lower-dose radiography and
fluoroscopy to confidently diagnose
conditions of the chest, spine, bones,
joints, soft tissue, pelvic structures and
digestive and urinary tracts.
The New Medical Director of Emergency Medicine
Dr. Rebecca Pequeno
Many people already know St. Luke’s
Riverside’s new Medical Director of
Emergency Medicine, Dr. Rebecca
Pequeno. A Bethlehem native, she was
born at St. Luke’s Hospital-Bethlehem
Campus, raised in the area and attended
local schools. She’s ready to step into
her role at St. Luke’s Riverside in the
Emergency Department when it opens
later this year.
Dr. Pequeno has always had an inherent
love of emergency medicine and a desire
to serve on the front lines as a first
responder. She graduated from
Freedom High School. As a teen, she
trained at Northampton Community
College in Bethlehem to become an
emergency medical technician (EMT)
and volunteered for Bethlehem
Township Volunteer Fire Company in
emergency services.
She went on to earn her undergraduate
degree from Juniata College in
Huntingdon, Pennsylvania and then
attended Temple University School of
Medicine in Philadelphia, where
she earned her medical degree.
Dr. Pequeno always knew she wanted to
come back to the region she calls home.
After medical school, she performed
her residency in Emergency Medicine at
St. Luke’s, serving as Chief Resident in
her third year. She has been a physician
in the Emergency Department in this
community for several years now, having
served at St. Luke’s Hospital-Bethlehem
Campus for the past three.
“I meet new people every day and enjoy

spending time with patients, their family

“I like knowing that I make a difference
in the lives of those who unexpectedly
find themselves in the Emergency
Department.”
Dr. Pequeno also serves as the medical
director for several local ambulance
services, including Suburban EMS which
includes four ambulance stations in
Northampton and Monroe counties,
the Hanover Township Volunteer Fire
Company EMS, Hecktown Volunteer
Ambulance Corps and Bath EMS. She
