Replacement Parts List Parts Diagram Bowfishing Precautions WARNING: Improper use of this reel can result in serious injury or death. We recommend that you use a cable or slide system when attaching the line to the arrow. The most hazardous snap-back can occur when fishing line is tied to the tail of an arrow. Snap-back is a condition that can happen when, as the bowstring is released, a trailing loop of line can tangle with the bowstring, cabling, arrow rest, or other items which can result in serious injury or death. Minimize the amount of slack in your line before shooting an arrow. Greater slack in the line increases chance of snap-back of an arrow. • ALWAYS press Thumb Button (#24) on reel to release the line pick-up pins before shooting. • ALWAYS check to see that line is not tangled. • ALWAYS check line for cuts or wear. If the line breaks, you cannot control the path of the arrow. • ALWAYS wet line before firing first shot. • ALWAYS wear eye protection. • DO NOT aim at other people, and keep arrows away from children. We strongly recommend that you take a bowfishing safety course before going bowfishing. Remove the Front Cover Assembly (#2). Ensure all old line is removed from the reel. Thread new line through the small opening in the nose of the Front Cover Assembly (#2). Tie the new line around the Spool (#6), being careful not to leave a tag end greater than ¼ inch. Reinstall the Front Cover Assembly (#2), being careful not to pinch/capture any loose line between the Front Cover Assembly (#2) threads. Lay spool of line on its side or have an assistant hold the spool and start winding the line under finger tension. Stop periodically to check if the line is twisting between the reel and the spool of line. If twisting, rotate spool of line end for end. The correct amount of line should fill the Spool (#6) to within 1/8” of the top of the spool’s lip. Before shooting, make sure the line is tied to a slide or cable system and not tied to the tail of the arrow, and ensure that knot is tight. Check to see that line inside reel spool is not caught, twisted or tangled. Depress Thumb Button (#24) to release line, and minimize the amount of slack in the line. After shooting, turn the crank handle to lock spinnerhead and begin line/fish retrieval. SETTING THE DRAG Reels used infrequently should be cleaned and relubricated annually, while reels used several times a week should be cleaned and relubricated monthly. The more frequent or severe the use, the more often and thoroughly a reel should be serviced. After use in saltwater, the reel and spool should be rinsed off with fresh water. If dropped in sand or dirt, the reel should be cleaned and relubricated entirely before using. The drag system allows line to be pulled from the reel under tension without breaking when a fish makes a quick run after being shot. To set the drag correctly, turn the drag wheel (located on top of the reel) to the right to increase drag until there is a moderate amount of drag tension when line is manually pulled from the reel. It’s better to start fishing with your drag set too loose, than too tight. You can tighten the drag when the fish is on, but if it is too tight, it could break the line. Always test and set the drag before fishing, and loosen the drag after fishing (this should be done for each fishing trip). LINE TWIST This is usually caused by improperly installed line, or reeling in against a slipping drag. To correct “line twist”, troll line behind boat or play it out in river current and rewind under tension. Never reel in when you hear the drag slipping.
