Ideally, the user of an application, and in our case a researcher who accesses it through a web interface, this would be without needing to know which services of the application run on the cloud. However, new applications or new functionalities demand a whole chain of services. The challenge INDIGO-DataCloud tackles is to design a new suite of services to allow research communities from all disciplines to deploy complex applications on their own and run them on the cloud, according to their needs. The current cloud technology, based on lightweight containers and related virtualization developments, allows Platforms as a Service to be designed in a relatively straightforward way. However, supporting scientific users is more complex due to the heterogeneous and distributed nature of the services shared by researchers in their collaboration, and the inherent complexity of the scientific work requirements. The setup of complex infrastructure and software components for scientific research is performed within large (private or public) datacenters, typically engaged in well-established European e-infrastructures, and accessed by users from different disciplines, all needing solutions to combine the execution of cloud services with efficient and simple operations. INDIGODataCloud provides the means to properly federate and interface with resource centers in a simple, standardized and reliable way, while enabling a suite of modular micro-services for the architectural design of complex systems to be deployed. 1 EGI-INDIGO workshop on community application support INDIGO Summit Day 1, Tuesday 9th, Room F1, 14:30 – 18:00 INDIGO Technical Sessions Thursday 11th, 14:30 – 18:00 14:30 - 16:00 Overview of e-infrastructure services in the EOSC Conveners: Jesus Marco de Lucas, Yin Chen, Themis Athanassiadou 14:30 Introduction Jesus MARCO DE LUCAS (CSIC) 14:35 EOSC: an ecosystem of services Luciano GAIDO (INFN) 14:50 14:30 - 16:00 INDIGO Summit: Open Forum - 14:30 - 16:00 INDIGO Summit: Solutions on Room: C1 IaaS, PaaS and SaaS - Room: F1 Convener: Davide Salomoni Convener: Giacinto Donvito In this session the INDIGO Open Forum is presented as an open framework for promoting, extending and exploiting INDIGO solutions.
