The following gems can be shared at chapter meetings or in your chapter
newsletter. The items listed below were suggested by new members who
said they wished they had known ....

The DAR Handbook is the definitive authority explaining in detail how
members can participate in fulfilling our motto of service to God, Home
and Country. The Handbook is revised each administration and is
available from the DAR Store in October of the second year of an
administration. The most recent version was available in October
2008.
~
Fall Forum, State Conference, and Continental Congress are three
events held yearly and are open to all chapter members (whether
elected chapter delegates or not).
~
A junior is a member 18 through 35 years of age. Juniors often serve
as Pages at State Conference and Continental Congress.
~
As a sign of respect for the office, it is customary for members to rise
when the President General and the State Regent are presented.
~
Fall Forum is a 2- day workshop held each October in conjunction with
the ASDAR State Board of Management. Fall Forum is open to ALL
members. It is important that the State Chairmen and State Vice
Chairmen, Chapter Regents and as many of her officers as possible
attend. The Board of Management meeting is also open to ALL
members. The voting members are: State Officers, Honorary State
Regents, and Chapter Regents.

The National Executive Committee serves for three years. Each
Administration has a theme and a project. The theme of the current
Administration is "The Spirit of Hospitality Opens Doors of

The State officers and committee chairmen serve for two years. The
next election of officers will be held at State Conference in May 2010.
);>
State Conference is held in May of each year. There are workshops
and items available for sale similar to Fall Forum. Each year a
Memorial Service is held when the names of all Arizona Daughters who
died during the year are read. Reports of the State Officers and State
Chairmen are given during the business sessions. The State Award
winners for the various contests are honored. All members are
welcome to attend State Conference. Guests (husbands and
prospective members) may attend all evening events, and most meals.
The most important reason to attend State Conference is that it
provides you opportunities to learn more about DAR and gives you lots
of ideas that have been successfully used by other chapters.

DAR owns the largest complex of bUildings in the world owned and
operated by women. The DAR Headquarters is on the National
Register of Historic Places.
);>
DAR is a non-profit organization and all contributions are tax
deductible.
);>
When referring to the Daughters of the American Revolution by its
initials each is pronounced separately (D-A-R) not as a word 'dar.'
);>
J. E. Caldwell has been the official DAR jeweler since 1892. There are
two types of pins DAR members wear. Only pins made by J.E.
Caldwell are to be worn on the official ribbon.
);>
Each level of the organization is governed by bylaws. Chapter bylaws
are often found printed in the chapter's yearbook. The National
bylaws are printed as part of the DAR Handbook. State bylaws are
printed in the State Directory, published at the beginning of each State
Regent's administration.
);>
HODAR is the term used for a husband of a DAR member.
);>
After a chapter committee chairman submits her Master Questionnaire
report to her Chapter Regent, the report is then sent on to the State
Corresponding Secretary, who then sends the reports on to the State
Chairman of the committee. The state chairman then consolidates the
chapter reports and sends the best reports on to the National Division
Vice Chairman. Arizona is in the Southwest Division. The National
2
Vice Chairman then consolidates the reports she receives and forwards
her report on to the National Chairman. The National Chairman reads
her report at Continental Congress. The report is also printed in the
National Proceedings.
);>
The title General for a national officer indicates they are responsible
for the entire society or the general organization. State and chapter
leaders are called Regents because they govern Vicariously for the
presiding president - President General of the National Society.
);>
The Insignia is the property of the National Society and may not be
used for commercial purposes or as an ornament. A ruling by the
National Board of Management limits the use of the Insignia by states
and chapters to yearbooks, stationery, programs an, when necessary,
to the work of the Society. The Insignia should appear in either the
top center or upper left hand corner, with NO WORDS written or
printed above it, except on an official DAR Banner where the Insignia
may be placed in the center with designation of National Society, state
society or chapter by name above, below or around the Insignia.
