From the Director
Dear Parents,
As my time at Cien Aguas comes to an end, I want to
thank each of you for trusting me to lead our school in
the education of your children over the past seven
years. Together we have built a strong, dedicated
community that continues to exemplify the true
meaning of quality bilingual education. It is my hope
that the many structures that have been put in place will
continue to affect all students in a positive way for
years to come. It has truly been my pleasure to serve
you!
Thank you all again and have a safe last month of
school!
Sincerely,

Facebook Page Clarification
The official Cien Aguas Facebook page “Cien Aguas
International School Notifications” serves as another
means of keeping our community informed. It
provides the latest news regarding important
information, dates, and events. We understand that
some parents may be confused by the unofficial page
which is run by parents. This page is also very
informative but may contain photos or the personal
opinions of members of the group. We ask that if you
have any questions, suggestions or concerns that you
please share it with the appropriate staff member, call
the school, email ([email protected]), or send us a
Facebook message. Usually if you have a question
about something we post, others will also benefit from
the clarification. Please “like” our page to stay
informed and help ensure our communication is clear
and accurate. Thank you!
Lunch and After School Balances
All balances for our lunch and after school programs
must be paid in full by May 13 . Students will not be
allowed to charge for either program during the last two
weeks of school. Please make sure to prepay for meals
and after school care from May 16-26. We will not
serve lunch or have after school care on Friday, May
27 due to early dismissal.

th
Governing Council
The governing council meeting for May is moved
to Tuesday, May 17. The budget will be approved at
this meeting. The finance committee and the
administration had a meeting for community input on
the budget before our April meeting. There will be a
general public forum session at the beginning of the
meeting. This is an opportunity to speak for two
minutes to the governing council to share concerns,
ideas and celebrations.

Curriculum Corner
Appreciation - As I complete my first year as the school’s
Curriculum Coordinator, I want to express my sincere appreciation
to the Cien Aguas staff and family community. I appreciate
working for teachers who pour their time and energy into our
students. I appreciate hearing them identify concerns that interfere
with student learning and their willingness to explore strategies to
work with those concerns. I thoroughly enjoy watching their faces
and listening to their proud voices when they celebrate students
achieving their learning goals. I appreciate their sincere desire to
collaborate and learn more to increase every student’s achievement.
I appreciate everybody’s flexibility and cooperative nature when
needed in challenging situations. I appreciate administrations’
communication and management style, their open door policy, and
willingness to collaborate. I appreciate family members who are
proactive advocates for their children, who collaborate with staff
members to support student achievement with their family
routines and take the time to communicate with us and partner
with us, in and out of the school. Thank you, Cien Aguas!
I hope to see many of you at our Parent Appreciation table at the
Book Fair on Wednesday, May 11th before and after school.
Enjoy the marvelous month of May! Sra. Colyer
Congratulations National History Day MS Club!!!
Congratulations to the Cien Aguas
History Club (Katherine Bokovoy,
Sofia Angel and Natalia Garcia) for all
their hard work this year! They
participated in the National History
Day Competition at the National
Hispanic Cultural Center where they
took second place at Regionals and
were the only team to receive the Civil
Rights Special Award at the State
Competition. This year’s theme was
Exploration, Encounter and Exchange
and they created a profound
documentary about the Women’s
Suffrage Movement here in New
Mexico. I would also like to extend a
special thanks to parent Melissa
Bokovoy for working so hard with
these students!
Battle of the Books
Congratulations to all Battle of the Books participants Christopher
Worley, Vanessa Ramierez, Eva Wilson and Jesse Wolford in the
middle school; William Cyphery, Santana Cordova, Ella Pockman,
Hazel Duvall, Henry Wesevich, Alice Worley, Aleida Dracup and
Alejandro Moses de la Vega at the primary level. William, Alice
and Henry Santana placed third at the Elementary School level!
Poesía Eres Tú
Thanks to all the students who participated on the Poesía Eres Tú
club. The participants recited their poems and the backup students
were there to give support, on the day of the state competition.
Thanks also to Graciela Bronson; she was a great unconditional
help during the process of PET. Thanks a lot also to Sr. Raúl; he is
always there to help with anything related to PET, each year.
Thanks to the parents/adults who helped with the PET club, too.
CONGRATULATION to JUDE WILLIAMS for winning third
place from the second grade participants! CONGRATULATIONS
to OLIVIA CHAVEZ for winning the second place from third
grade participants! We all worked really hard to represent our
school with pride.
CAIS Garden News
Thank you to those families and staff
that came out last month for our
garden workday. We got our two new
550-gallon water tanks situated to
catch rainwater. We also moved, built
and filled with compost 3 new raised
beds, which have the potential to be
filled with many plants by little hands.
If we do indeed get things growing in
them, volunteers will be needed to
care for the garden over the summer
vacation. Watering, weeding, and
harvesting will need to happen! Look
for an email regarding this in the days
to come.
On the waste side of things, we added a big blue recycling bin this
year, which collects over 100 pounds of recycling each week. We
also have been trying to integrate green bins into the school
environment as everyone learns more about compost and food
waste.
As the school year comes to an end, the 2nd grade classes will be
heading to La Plazita Gardens, a local community farm, for a full
day of learning and tasting while the 8th graders head to Ruidoso
on a trip of service for their capstone project.
Finally, look for our new amazing rack at the front of the school.
Other than offering a safe and secure place to lock bikes, the rack
signifies Cien Aguas’ commitment to the environment and healthy
living.

Cien Aguas PTA
This month, PTA funded kindergarten buses to the zoo, and
part of 1st grade and 3rd grade field trips. We were also able
to pay for nutrition classes for middle schoolers. We also
provided cuties for the health fair and we're able to honor
our teachers daily for teacher appreciation week with the
funds you have helped raise.
Thank you to everyone who helped make the carnival
spectacular! Thank you to all who donated time, talent, and
came up with fun activities for the kids to enjoy. The food
was delicious thanks to Swan Kitchen and all who donated
the delicious beans, salad, paper goods snacks and chili. With
your help, we raised $1800, which will go towards providing
buses for field trips, teacher special requests, and PE
equipment for next year.
Thank you to families who donated their items to the
Goodwill Drive. We raised almost $1000 for books in
Spanish for the School's Lending Book Collection. Also,
thank you to the families who helped clean up around the
school and on the playground.
Roller Skate City Summer Passes are available for $3. They
are a great deal. You get $3 off of admission each time you
use it and they are valid until August 10th. Contact Adriene
[email protected] if you are interested.
The PTA is looking to fill the following positions for next
year:
Co-President (would have a full year of training before taking
over as president in 2017)
Secretary (has to be at all meetings and take notes)
Fall carnival coordinator
Spring carnival coordinator
Membership coordinator
Fundraising coordinator
Advertising/Communication coordinator
PTA can not exist without all of the dedicated families!
Thank you for your continued support. Please let us know if
you are interested in any of these positions for next year
