Keynote Speakers David P. Hopkins, MD, MPH Dr. Hopkins is the medical officer for the Community Guide Branch at CDC. He trained in internal medicine in San Jose, California, and followed that up with a MPH from UC Berkeley. Dr. Hopkins joined the CDC as an EIS officer in 1995 and spent two years with the New York State Health Department here in Albany, working on tuberculosis. He joined the Community Guide Branch at CDC in 1997, and has remained with the Guide for the last 20 years. In addition to leading the most recent systematic review updates on interventions to increase vaccination coverage, Dr. Hopkins has worked on sets of systematic reviews for the topics of tobacco prevention and control, asthma, cardiovascular disease prevention, and diabetes. Jill B. Roark, MPH Ms. Roark leads the adolescent immunization communications team for the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, where she has focused on HPV vaccine communications for the past seven years. Jill witnessed the devastation of HPV disease firsthand, in a college-town Planned Parenthood while managing the abnormal pap follow-up process, as well as the colposcopy clinic. Jill regularly presents on HPV infection, disease, vaccination, and communicating successfully about HPV vaccine. Jill has worked in public health for 20 years and received her degrees from the University of Florida. Karin Szymanski , MEd Karin is the Marketing Manager for The Arizona Partnership for Immunization (TAPI), a non-profit statewide coalition focusing on immunizations across the lifespan. She joined TAPI in 2010 with a focus on educating child care centers about the importance of ASIIS, Arizona’s immunization registry and developing a cocooning project with hospitals and community health centers. Since then, her position has grown to special projects in the community focusing on vaccine education. Some of these projects include: a teen focused meningitis campaign, HPV vaccination, a growth chart including preconception health and health information through age 6, and outreach for increased health care worker and adult vaccination. She also oversees TAPI’s website, marketing materials and social media. Karin is not new to the world of non-profits and has worked in this sector for almost 20 years. She holds a B.A. in Sociology from Westminster College and a M.Ed. from Northern Arizona University. Keynote Speakers Continued: Anita A. Colbert Anita is the Immunization Outreach Supervisor for Tarrant County Public Health, Fort Worth, Texas and serves as the Treasurer for the Immunization Collaboration of Tarrant County, Fort Worth, Texas. Anita graduated from PA School of Nursing in 1971. She spent many years in hospital nursing and four years as a school nurse in Okinawa, Japan. In 1991, she found her real calling as a Public Health nurse and began an immunization program during a measles outbreak in Fort Worth / Dallas, Texas. This program is still successful today and much of it is credited to Tarrant County Public Health and the working relationship with Immunization Collaboration of Tarrant County. Since 1991, she has been directly involved in the beginning, nurturing and sustaining of ICTC and has led volunteers and staff through many years of education and events. Terri Andrews Terri Andrews is the volunteer Chairman of Immunization Collaboration of Tarrant County, and has served in this role since 2006. She represents the Tarrant County Medical Society Alliance and the Texas Medical Association’s Be Wise—Immunize project. For over 20 years, Terri volunteered in her children’s schools and participated in community efforts in AIDS education, Organ Donation education, United Way Council on Abuse and Neglect and additional children’s health and safety projects. She served in leadership positions such as: Tarrant County Medical Society Alliance President and Grants Committee Chair for Texas Medical Association Foundation Board of Directors. Terri grew up in New Jersey, met Charley, her husband of 44 years (now a retired nephrologist), at Washington College in Chestertown Maryland, studied Radiologic Technology at University of Maryland Hospital, then received her Bachelor of General Studies Degree at Texas Christian University in Fort Worth. They love adventure travel including following whales, beautiful geography and their family farm in the Pocono Mountains. They raised 3 daughters and have 8 grandchildren. Terri is committed to getting the word out that vaccines are safe and effective!
