Well done to Alice at the Scottish championships: the first gymnast to
compete at a full coded FIG National competition. Even more exciting for
her was that the bars she competed on were used in the Olympics so she
was swinging on the same bars as Beth Tweddle did at the Olympics, very
cool!
The arena was huge, without a doubt the biggest arena Alice had ever
competed in. The competition was split into ‘All round’ on the Saturday
and then even final on the sunday. Alice only competed Beam and Bars this
time on the Saturday. She had a wobbly first piece and an interesting
dismount on beam :-) but went on to finish on the bars qualifying as one
of the top 6 for the final. She then competed on the Sunday and did the
best bar routine she has ever done!!!! -Getting her a bronze medal in the
junior category. A great result for her first Scottish National
championships, and her first year in the junior category, making her one
of the youngest in the group.

Gym Fusion 2013
On Sunday 14 July, Harrogate
Gym Club took part for the very
first time in Gym Fusion which is
the British Gymnastics Festivals
programme. The event took
place at the York Barbican and
with over 400 gymnasts and an
audience of up to 1500 it was a
truly amazing event.
It was a very long day for our 14
acrobatics gymnasts as they had
to wait 5 hours until their turn
but it was worth the wait as they
put on an absolutely fantastic 6.5
minute routine. Wearing tribal
costumes, face/body paint and
crazy hair they danced, tumbled
and performed acrobatic
balances without a flicker of
nerves.
Our team were also chosen by
6.5 MINUTES OF DANCE,
BALANCE AND TUMBLING!!
BG TV to be filmed and
interviewed. There was also a
BBC camera crew filming for
CBBC’s Turbo Boost programme
so there’s a chance we may also
be on the telly!
Well done to all the gymnasts;
Charlotte Wood, Emma
Townsend, Sophie Parkinson,
Rowan Parkinson, Annie
Cornish, Imogen Rudloff, Mia
Cook, Gabriella Whiteley,
Georgina Morphet, Millie
Mitchell, Charlie Murray, Zoe
Dixon, Maisie Liptrot and
Florence Cornish.
The routine took weeks and
weeks of practice but it was well
worth it in the end and the
experience was fantastic. Special
thanks to Louise Dixon for her
help in putting together the great
costumes.
Roll on Gym Fusion 2014!!!!
GymFusion is British Gymnastics National Festivals
Programme, now just into its second year, it has seen
over 2000 performers take part in the noncompetitive, show style festivals. Encompassing the
ethos of Gymnastics For All, GymFusion isn’t a
competition but a collaboration and aims to give
participants the opportunity to display their skills
and talents as a team in a fun and friendly
environment.

Grades
This term due to a spate of
injuries only 2 gymnasts entered
the grades competition on Sunday
26th May. Jessica (Jesii) Harrison
and Amy Gold both competed for
the Under 17s Grade G.
Jesii competed first, with Amy
second in the group. Both girls
achieved fantastic scores of mid
to high 7s and even an 8.0 for
Jesii, allowing both girls to
qualify grade G in the respective
positions they competed in.
Trampolining at Harrogate
Gymnastics Club is going through
an exciting transition at the
moment with the opportunity for
MORE CLASSES IN
SEPTEMBER 2013
many more classes from
September.
So that we can enable a greater
range of gymnasts to learn to
trampoline, classes have opened
up for all ages from 8, to
teenagers and even adults.
The squad groups will have the
opportunity to all train at least
twice a week with the addition of
a Friday 5:30-7:30pm class and an
extra add on class Thursday
6-8am (yes that’s correct, AM!!).
This means additional spaces have
opened up for those gymnasts
showing potential at a high level.
To allow gymnasts to get an idea
of how the sessions work and
have a go, taster sessions are
being run throughout the summer
holidays on Mondays and
Wednesdays 10-12 and 1-3.

Well done to the Harrogate gymnastics club national team
(above) Harrogate sports councils junior team of the year!
Also congratulations to Hannah and Lara shown left with the
Mayor of Harrogate. They received Centenary Grants for 2013.
Both girls were awarded a grant to help towards the cost of
travel to competitions and kit over the next year. The grants are
given to young sports people who are at the top of their sport
in the Harrogate area. The girls are in the top Squad at the
club so travel all around the country competing in national level
competitions and the grants are a great help to the girls and are
much appreciated. Well done to both girls.

Five girls from Harrogate Gymnastics
