Section 3 Chapter 4 By Mr. Howard Review What is another name for the French and Indian War? What was the importance of the Treaty of Paris? What was the Proclamation of 1763 What is the Sugar Act, Quartering Act, and the Stamp Act? What was the Boston Massacre? Protest to Rebellion The Tea Act was Passed in 1773. The colonist were boycotting tea and this act allowed the East India company to lower prices. This angered the colonist because it allowed the East India company a monopoly on tea. Monopoly Monopoly is total control of the market. The Boston Tea Party A group know as The sons of liberty started to organize in port cities and stop the unloading of tea. They threatened anyone who would unload the tea. A governor named Thomas Hutchinson made sure the tea was unloaded. On December 16,1773 a large group of men disguised as Native Americans boarded ship and threw 342 cases of tea into the Harbor. Intolerable Acts After the Boston Tea party Parliament was outraged. In response Parliament passed 4 laws First law closed the port of Boston, Two increased power to royal governors, abolished upper house of Massachusetts legislature, and cut the powers of town meetings, Three Anyone murdering a British colonial official could be tried in England, and Fourth it strengthened the 1765 Quartering Act. American Helped Intolerable Acts Americans responded to these acts by pouring food into Boston. The first meeting of the Continental Congress also took place. Congress asked for a repeal or official end to the Intolerable Acts. The shot heard around the World The British had no intent on meeting the colonial demands. The British chose to use force. The colonist used minutemen citizens soldiers who could be used to fight in a minutes notice. Review for section 3 chapter 5 The Tea Act was Passed in 1773. Number Two Was the marking of the end of French and Indian War, and it forced the French to surrender their land. Number Three It was a line which banned settlers from moving any further west. Number Four The sugar act placed duties or taxes on items such as sugar and molasses. The Quartering act was a law that one must house British soldiers. The stamp act placed taxes on certain items and activities. Number five The Boston massacre happened when a group of protestors surrounded British soldiers and threw snowballs and rocks at the soldiers. One soldier fired into the crowd and started a chain reaction. This lead to 5 killed and six wounded. Questions
