Walter Reed National Military Medical Center continues to be an outstanding health
care facility and remains busy with patients that come from all over the world.
Aleethia’s programs are designed to reduce stress and isolation, nurtured family relationships, increase independence, bridge the gaps and much more. This all helps with
the healing process.
Your support of Aleethia’s programs makes it possible for us to continue supporting
these deserving service members and their immediate families. Your method of giving preserves the dignity of the service members so they do not have to parade in
front of a camera or attend fund raisers in order to get the support they need and deserve.
In 2015, we added Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT) to our list of services. This
provides help for the medical issues some of these service members are experiencing.
At Bethesda Hyperbaric, the doctors evaluate the patients to see if HBOT will help. If
the doctors decide it will help, they write the prescription and begin the therapy
(called dives). Basically this puts the patient in an enclosed chamber, supplies oxygen
up to 100% and puts the patient under pressure up to three atmospheres. The doctor
decides how much oxygen and what pressure to use and a chamber technician handles the implementation of the doctor’s prescription. Each dive is one hour long and
the therapy protocols for mTraumatic Brain Injury (mTBI) is usually 40 dives (therapy
sessions). They usually do one dive per day for 40 days. We have seen remarkable
results from this therapy.
However, it is relatively expensive. The dives plus evaluation by the doctors for the
underlying causes can cost $8,000 to $10,000 per service member. We are actively
looking for people to sponsor a service member with their needs for dives. If you or
your friends can help in any way it would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you for your years of continued support!

The “Dine Out on Aleethia” program which started a few years ago and continues to be
very popular with the staff at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center/NICoE. The
WRNMMC/NICoE staff is very caring and appreciates being able to offer a service member
and their spouse an evening of relaxation between hard days of therapy and recovery.
“We, staff members love the “Dine Out with Aleethia” program … “NICoE service members
have expressed sincere gratitude for the dinners. They praise the excellent food, service
and ambiance of the restaurants.” The staff told us of a service member and his family of
four who were “stuck” on base over a holiday weekend and were given a “Dine Out” card
and commented they “had a wonderful time…it made being away from home much more bearable.” We have received so many comments regarding Aleethia’s program; such as, “it was great to enjoy an evening out after such a
stressful day...” and “we were able to enjoy a memorable evening with visiting family away from the hospital…”
and so much more. The cards give the staff an opportunity to say “I CARE” in a way that is different than what a
patient is accustom to hearing. This special part of patient care means a lot to the patient and the clinician.
YOUR continued support of this program is greatly appreciated.
