OUR GRAND FAIR DAY
From my calculations there are only 9 more sleeps to go!
We really are in the home stretch. To make the Fair the success it can be requires all members of the
school community to lend a hand on the day whether it be volunteering with set up, helping on a stall or
assisting with clean up the following day. So please make sure that you visit our school website at
www.chathamps.vic.edu.au/ and click on the Fair tab. Make sure too that you invite all your neighbours,
friends and relatives to what promises to be another outstanding day for the local community. This event
is also fantastic in bringing the whole school together as students, teachers and parents work towards
making this day a memorable one for us all.
The next Working Bee is this Saturday 25th February to tidy up the school in readiness for the Grand Fair
and have our school looking its best. This working bee is scheduled for our Prep families. Remember anyone outside of the year level is welcome to come along and volunteer their time in lieu of another year
level’s scheduled working bee. We really do appreciate and rely on everyone in the school community
coming along to help maintain our school grounds.
PARENT-TEACHER INTERVIEWS
All parents should have now booked a time online to meet with their child’s class teacher next week.
Please note the booking site will close as of 12 midnight on Sunday 26th February. These initial interviews
are scheduled for 10 minutes and provide you with the opportunity to discuss with the class teacher the
strengths and areas of improvement for your child. Please be considerate of others and try to keep to
your time.
SPECIAL ASSEMBLY
At tomorrow’s assembly we will be announcing our 2017 Yr 6 Leadership positions, as well as showing
their Yr 6 camp Powerpoint. It is also the first assembly for our Preps.
DIVISION SWIMMING SPORTS
On Monday we had 24 students representing our school at the Boorondara Sports Centre to compete in
the District Swimming Carnival. Everyone swam really well with some excellent results, even though the
weather was a little cool. Congratulations to all our swimmers.
SCHOOL PHOTOS
A reminder that next Wednesday 1st March is School Photos. On this day grade and individual photos are
taken, as well as any family photos that have been pre-selected.

SCHOOL COUNCIL ELECTIONS – 2017
Each year we need to hold elections for half of our School Council membership. School Councils provide the vital link between
the implementation of the government’s policies and the needs of local communities. School Council members have a number of roles and responsibilities and we would encourage all parents to consider nominating for one of the upcoming positions. Below is the 2017 election timeframe.
What do you need to do to stand for election?
The principal will issue a notice and call for nominations following the commencement of Term 1 each year. All School Council
elections must be completed by the end of March.
If you decide to stand for election, you can arrange for someone to nominate you as a candidate or you can nominate yourself in the Parent category.
DET employees whose child is enrolled in a school in which they are not employed are eligible to nominate as parents for the
School Council where their child is enrolled.
Once the nomination form is completed, return it to the Principal within the time stated on the notice of election.
If there are more nominations received than there are vacancies on council, a ballot will be conducted during the two weeks
after the call for nominations has closed.
Please note:
If the number of nominations is less than the number of vacancies, a notice to that effect will be made calling for further
nominations.
If the number of nominations equals the number of vacancies, then those nominated will be elected to the vacant positions
on School Council.
If the number of nominations is greater than the number of vacancies, a ballot will be conducted to elect the required number of candidates to School Council.

CLASSROOM HELPERS COURSE 2017
We will be running a course for our parent helpers called Classroom Helpers. The course will be held in
the school library on Wednesday 8th March 2017, from 9.15am to 11:00am.
This course is designed to support parents who assist in the classroom and covers Independent Reading,
Reading with your child, Writing, working with small groups and classroom protocols.
The course will:
·
·
·
Develop in participants an increased understanding of the development of literacy skills in reading
and writing.
Demonstrate various learning situations to participants so they can act as role models for students in
classrooms.
Train participants in how to provide support for small groups of students in reading and writing.
If you have participated in a previous Classroom Helpers Course you are welcome to attend as there have
been changes made to the course and it is a good way to refresh your skills.
It is necessary to attend the course before you offer to help in any of the classrooms. If you can’t
attend the course but would like to participate in the classroom, please come and speak to me.
All parents helping anywhere in the school need to have a Working with Children Check and this must
be shown to the office staff before commencing assistance in the classroom.
Please complete the form below if you wish to attend the course and return to the School Office by Friday 3rd March or email me on [email protected]
During this session we are unable to accommodate toddlers so we would appreciate it if alternative arrangements can be made for them.
Looking forward to seeing you all there.

The Fair is only 9 sleeps away!!
We have a few spots left in other stalls, but we need help particularly in the above 3 areas. Food is our critical area. There are
places available in all time slots - set up/preparation, helping with taking orders/cooking/serving and pack up. The success of
these stalls depends on everyone's contribution so please help out if you can. Any questions about the food stalls can be directed to Jane (rosters - 0407 883 665, 8672 4261 or [email protected]) or Ben (food - 0407 117 530).
Live Auction:
We have been working hard to find some fantastic prizes to offer during 2 Live Auctions. We plan to have 2 times for live auctions: 6:00pm and 8:30 - stay tuned for details and get ready to bid.
Silent Auction & Trash n Treasure:
We really need each class to donate to the hampers for the silent auction. Last call for help here as Anna is about to finalize
the boxes. Additionally, we are still accepting items for Trash n Treasure, books.
Order forms
Order forms have gone out for Tokens & Rides. If you haven't seen the notes surface from your child's bag, they are on the
Chatham website under Fair.
Raffle tickets
We ask that each family sell at least 1 raffle book. We are running a competition. The class that sells the most books wins a
pizza lunch. All children in the family will get 1 point for every book sold to their respective class. Part books are not counted,
so please try to sell all the tickets.
Cake Plates All families are asked to bake a cake for the Cake Stall. Kits will go home during week beginning 24th of Feb.
Chatham is famous for the Cake Stall, and it really is a great way to contribute by baking your specialty. We'd really love allergy friendly and gluten free baked goods as they are very popular.
The Silent Auction need generous help for the Chatham Primary Grand Fair that is happening on Sat 4th March,
2017.
We would love each family to donate an item to their designated classroom hamper! Woo hoo!
There is a labelled box in or outside your classroom that the items can be placed in. Please make sure the items
are brand new and completely fantastic. Remember all the money raised goes back into our beautiful school. Can
we please have these items at the latest by Friday 24th February.

Thanks to the amazing school and wider business community, most of the equipment for the Fair has
already been sourced. However, we were hoping to borrow the following items for the Fair:
 6 x filled gas bottles for use with the BBQ’s.
 Extra-long Fairy light strings for decoration.
 3 x 20m extension cords.
2 x Market Umbrellas.
All equipment will be labelled and returned. If you are able to help out with any of the above equipment, please email Kate on [email protected] and we can coordinate drop off and return.
Levi has chosen to support the Leukaemia Foundation for his annual fundraising effort this year. On March 19 he
will shave his head to raise money to help people with blood cancer. If you can spare some change please go to
