SEL ICON Dual Cube 19" Rack Mounting

SEL ICON Dual Cube 19” Rack Mounting
Overview
NOTE: The ICON half-width Cube
requires a minimum vertical
separation of 1U (1.75 inches or 4.445
centimeters) above and below the
chassis for ventilation to meet
environmental specifications. The
Cube does not need any separation
for side spacing.
!
This guide will assist the customer with instructions for installing the SEL
Integrated Communications Optical Network (ICON®) half-width Cube
chassis (P/N SEL 8002-01) in the dual Cube 19" rack-mount option
(SEL P/N 915900330) configuration, depicted in Figure 1.
WARNING
Take precautions when removing or
installing screws near the backplane.
The #140-1815 screw is small enough
to fall behind the backplane shield.

Two ICON half-width Cube chassis can be mounted side by side in a standard
19" EIA relay rack by using the optional SEL 915900330 rack adapter kit and
following these instructions.
Step 1. If modules are already installed, note the module slot locations
and remove the modules.
Step 2. Orient the two chassis so the blue HMI side is facing away
from you and the cable access side is facing towards you.
Step 3. Designate one chassis as “Left” and the other “Right.”
Step 4. On the left ICON Cube chassis, remove the right #190-3535
bracket ear by removing the eight #140-1815 screws.
Step 5. On the right ICON Cube chassis, remove the left #190-3535
bracket ear by removing the eight #140-1815 screws.
Step 6. Rotate the left ICON Cube chassis 90° clockwise so the
chassis’ remaining bracket ear is facing up and the cable side is
facing you.
Step 7. Using the six #140-1814 screws found in the kit, thread each
screw through the holes depicted in Figure 2 until the screws
are fully threaded and in the “captive” state.

Step 8. Rotate the right ICON Cube chassis 90° clockwise so the
chassis’ remaining bracket ear is facing down and the cable
side still faces you.
Step 9. Place the #190-3538 bracket mating plate on top of the right
ICON Cube chassis, ensuring that the side of the plate without
holes is farther away from you.
Step 10. Align the six holes on the plate with the holes on the right
ICON Cube chassis. See Figure 3 for proper bracket mating
plate alignment.

Step 11. Place the left ICON Cube chassis on top of the bracket mating
plate. Feed the six #140-1814 captive screws through the
bracket mating plate and loosely fasten each of the screws into
the right ICON Cube chassis.
Step 12. Once the left and right chassis are mechanically aligned,
tighten each of the six screws with 10–12 in-lbs of torque.

Step 13. You have the option of having either the HMI (blue side) or
cable access side towards the front of the rack. The ears of the
#190-3535 bracket ears must be facing the side you want to
have in front. If the bracket ears are not in front, reverse them
by removing the sixteen #140-1815 screws, rotating the bracket
ears 180°, and reattaching the screws with 10–12 in-lbs of
torque.

Step 14. Ensuring there is at least 1U of vertical clearance between the
Cube and the next device, proceed to mount the connected
cubes into your 19" rack with the customer-supplied rackmount bolts.
Step 15. Install the ICON modules into the ICON Cube chassis with
18 in-lbs of torque. If reinstalling, ensure they are going back
into the locations noted in Step 1.
