SociAL MEdia Training
To Combat Unemployment
Among Higher Education
Graduates!
Over the last 2 years, Inova have been working with partners in Austria, Spain, Germany, Greece, Italy and
Portugal on the SALE project. The project aimed to develop a new training programme for unemployed, higher
education graduates which would help them proomote themselves effectively to potential employers using
online platforms and social media.
The pilot training of the SALE project took place successfully in the UK earlier this year, with 15
graduates benefitting from the training. This newsletter outlines the main results and some of our
reflections from the programme. We hope you enjoy reading about our work!

Social Media Training
To Combat Unemployment Among
Higher Education Graduates!
The SALE pilot training took place in Sheffield between April and June 2016 and was attended by 15
unemployed graduates from Sheffield, helping them make better use of social media to promote
themselves to prospective employers. The training made all of us, participants and trainers, think about
how awe can benefit from taking some time to refresh our CV’s and LinkedIn profiles - even if we aren’t
looking to move jobs.
One of our participants commented that he has completely neglected his LinkedIn profile and has only
gone back to it since leaving his last job. This is the case for many of us - whether it’s a LinkedIn
profile or a traditional CV, once we are settled in a job, we forget to update our profiles with details of the
achievements we’ve made. But, regularly spending some time to reflect on our achievements is a great
way to increase our self-confidence and can have a positive effect on our lives.
In sports psychology it is believed that athletes perform better when they feel confident and the same goes
for the rest of us! By remembering situations when we have performed well, savouring once again the
feeling of pride and happiness at reaching a key achievement (passing an exam, for example) we can bring
those feelings back to our current situation and improve our performance now.
So here is a challenge - Take a blank piece of paper and write down 30 achievements which you’re proud
of. See how far you can get...if you can’t think of 30, have a chat with your partner, a friend or colleague
and see if they remember some achievements you’ve forgotten. This exercise isn't easy and it may take
you a while to complete your list but it's a great opportunity to spend some time reflecting back on those
things that have made you proud! Now, before you forget about your list, take some time to update your
LinkedIn profile or CV as well, including some of those key professional achievements which haven't made
it that far yet. Use this an opportunity, not only to feel proud of yourself but showcase to others what you've
done as well.

training yourself, please contact us!
