Biography Project
Introduction
There are many famous people coming from the Spanish-speaking world.
Some of them are American people whose parents are from a Spanishspeaking country.
Task
You will be creating an electronic
audio-visual presentation about a
famous Spanish-speaking person
who is still alive today. Each students will have a different person
(no repeats). The project will
include separate slides for each
topic addressed and include relevant pictures and/or media to
enhance your presentation. Text
should be limited, as you will be
recording your own narration.
Process
Do NOT plan your presentation in
English and try to translate each
word into Spanish! Your English
vocabulary and sentence structure
is much more developed than
it is in Spanish at this point, and it
will get you into structures that
you don’t know. Use the Spanish
you have learned to get your
ideas across.
Evaluation
Sofia VergaraModern Family
Your final project will be evaluated
using the following criteria and will be
scored out of 100
points.
75 points for Content
10 points for Overall Presentation
15 points for recorded script
The ONLY reason you should use
a dictionary is if you absolutely
cannot get across any other way
(e.g. you don’t need to say “He
lives in a mansion.” “He lives in a
very big house” will do).
Online dictionaries are
different than online
translators: dictionaries
will give you information
about word use (“ring”:
“something you wear on
your finger” vs “ring”:
“what a phone does
when someone calls”).
Translators will just give
you a word or string of
words. Online translators
do not see the “big picture.”
They translate the
words you input (and often
do not do a very good
job). If you do not have a
Spanish-English dictionary,
Mrs. Bednar recommends
www.wordreference.com
for an online dictionary.
She says it is easy to navigate and
very thorough.
A Note on Academic
Integrity
Do NOT--under any circumstances-use a translator, native
speaker, or student from a more
advanced Spanish class to
complete this project. If it is determined that you have included
work that is not your own, you will
be referred to the principal.
