Course summary
Spanish is the world’s third most widely spoken language after Mandarin Chinese and English. It is one of the official
languages of the European Union and the United Nations. This course is designed to build your skills in listening, reading,
writing and speaking and also offers an insight into the culture and civilisation of Spain. There will be an opportunity to
visit Spain as part of your studies.

What will my final qualification be?
GCSE Spanish awarded by AQA.
How will my work be assessed?
There are assessments in Listening, Speaking, Reading and Writing. Writing and Speaking exams are prepared and
conducted in controlled conditions in College; Reading and Listening exams are set by the Exam Board. Students can
enter for Foundation or Higher level depending on the level of skill they reach.
What other subjects combine well with this course?
All languages combine well with any other subject.
Specific entry requirements
GCSEs in English and a foreign language, though you can start this course without ever having studied Spanish before.
The interest and determination to learn a new language are crucial.
Where might it lead?
Whether you study GCSE Spanish in your first or second year at Barton Peveril we would encourage you to take it
further if you can, either to AS if you are staying at College or by exploring the possibility of continuing your study of the
language in higher education.
