(nearest metro, Columbia Heights Metro-Green line, 14th & Irving - 4 blocks) Join us in Washington, D.C. on Sunday, Feb. 24 at 2630 16th St. NW, (near the corner of Fuller just south of Columbia Rd.) for a demonstration to confront an anti-Cuba protest by demanding: “U.S. hands off Cuba! Free the Cuban 5 from unjust U.S. imprisonment. End the brutal and illegal blockade of Cuba. End the trade and travel ban.” photo: NoWaronCuba.org Be there by 9 a.m. and stay for the daylong action, or just stop by for awhile. February 24 is an important day in revolutionary Cuban history: • In 1895 an anti-colonial war of independence began near Santiago, only to be cut short by U.S. military occupation known as the Spanish-American War. • On Feb. 24, 1996, Cuba defended its sovereignty, shooting down two of three planes organized by violent Florida-based paramilitaries who frequently, intentionally and provocatively violated Cuban airspace -- even dangerously dropping materials over cities. Cuba’s justifiable defense was twisted by the Miami courts to falsely charge Gerardo Hernandez, one of the Cuban 5, railroading him to a double-life plus 15 years prison term. The Cuban 5 are unjustly held in the U.S., hostages to 50+ years of hot and cold U.S. war against Cuba’s independence. This united defense of the sovereignty of the Cuban revolution is led by DC-area Cuban Solidarity groups including: No War on Cuba Movement, DC-Metro Coalition to Free the Five, FMLN, Venceremos Brigade, Pastors for Peace, All-African Peoples Revolutionary Party (GC), All-African Peoples Revolutioanry Party, Socialist Workers Party, Communist Party-USA, ANSWER Coalition, International Action Center, Green Party, Workers World Party and a host of other church, student and community organizations.
