Romanov D.A. Semantic Transformations of Substantivized Adjectives.
The article addresses the semantic process accompanying the formation of substantivized
forms in Russian. Basing on the material of main dictionaries, the semantic extension and desemantization of substantivized adjectives as compared to the derivate is analyzed, the spread
area, reasons and mechanics of each process are defined and the accompanying phenomena of
language game is pointed out.

Petrova N.A. To the Problem of Common Gender Words in Russian Language.
The article is devoted to the appearance of words of the common gender in the language.
Basing on the dynamic theory of standard’s development, there is demonstrated the live process
of moving from single naming of persons by their profession, position and title, through stylistic
variants of their use in the language, to the formation of common gender words and, finally, to
the appearance of gender pairs of personal nouns at different time-lengths of Russian language
existence.

Teaching of the Russian Language.
Metasubject teaching of the Russian language may be carried out not only at lessons but also
as an out-of-school activity. In particular, within the process of teaching schoolchildren to
conduct linguistic researches. The article is devoted to the analysis and summarization of
methodological aspects of this work which has been accomplished for 17 years within the
preparation and holding of the International scientific and practical conference for
schoolchildren “Language Studies to Everybody”.

Franz Miklosich (1813–1891) was an Austrian philologist of Slovenia origin, one of the greatest

author of the first dictionary of the Old Slavic language and the first comparative grammar of
Slavic languages, in the second part of the 19th century he finalized the work started by his famous
predecessors, the founders of Slavic studies, by turning it into a modern scientific discipline.

Sukhov S.V. Verbal Forms with the Particle self and the Problem of the Middle Voice of the
Russian Language.
The article addresses the meaning and usage of verbal constructions with the particle self in the
Russian language. It is shown that the core primary meaning of these constructions is the meaning of
the action being locked within the sphere of the subject. However the possibility of appearing of a
construction with the particle self is subject to the verb with such particle acquiring certain additional
meanings. There is also considered the possibility for the particle self to act as the formal mark of the
Middle Voice form of Russian verb which can only appear in rare cases of combination of this
particle with transitive verbs with object. Due to the rarity and irregularity of such combinations it is
not possible to talk about appearance in the modern Russian language of a new grammar category of
the Middle Voice however there exists a potential for its formation.

one of the model books in orthography in the 18th century. There are stated innovative aspects of the
work, the author’s position in the dispute on the leading position of spelling and “extra” letters, the
evaluation of the “Experience” by A.P. Sumarokov, A. Barsov, Ya.K. Grot and M.I. Sukhomlinov, the
influence of M.V. Lomonosov’s grammar on V.P. Svetov’s recommendations. The orthographic
postulates of V.P. Svetov are analyzed within the context of peculiarities of orthographic practice of
the second part of the 18th century.

The same questions are considered in respect of fixed phrases as well. Special attention is paid
to the part of dictionary information about a word which is focused not on the reception but on
productive types of speech activity.

development of the original Slavic root gam-//gom- and comparably late impact on it of the
borrowed lexeme of a mythological nature.

Priemysheva M.N. A.A. Shakhmatov-Lexicographer (to the 150 th Anniversary of the
Scientist).
The article addresses some aspects of lexicographical activity of A.A. Shakhmatov whose
150th anniversary is celebrated this year in June. Since 1894 the scientist headed the work on the
academic “Russian Language Dictionary” and continued managing the lexicographical work in
the Academy persistently till 1906. As of today, “Russian Language Dictionary” has become the
only thesaurus of the Russian language unlike previous and following academic definition
standard dictionaries of the literary Russian language. The article gives a detailed analysis of
the two published sources where the theoretical justification of A.A. Shakhmatov’s concept is
fixed and some critical evaluation given by L.V. Scherba in 1929 is presented.

Aspect Homonyms.
The article presents different point of view on the formation of prefix-containing verbs
of motion of imperfective aspect like carry to, fly, away, bring together in Russian and
Slavic linguistics. The method of their formation is defined by the author as suffixation of
analogical character. As one of the proofs of not prefixation but suffixation formation of
these verbs their aspect homonyms like carry to, fly around (to do) and carried to, flown
around (have done) are considered.

linguistic experiment held among representatives of different groups of native Russian language

on the material of the novel “Quietly Flows the Don” by M.A. Sholokhov which will help
pupils differentiate between complete and incomplete one-member and two-member sentences
allowing not only use punctuation marks correctly but also understand peculiarities of

The article analyzes some aspects of the concept of “norm” with regard to the set
comparisons of the Russian language. Specific examples demonstrate some advantages of

In the article the methodology of tiered linguisticator analysis of text is presented taking into
account the authorial model of text organization including informing, which is the semantic and

Marianchik V.A. Mystery of Anagrams (An Analysis of the Poems of Marina Tsvetaeva “Small
Home Spirit…”).
The article offers a stylistic analysis of the poem of Marina Tsvetaeva “Small home spirit…” that
can be used at the integrated lesson of the Russian language and the literature. The central task is to
identify poetic anagrams. The author touches upon the problem of objectivity, the reasonableness of
the allocation of anagrams in the text. The stylistic analysis, in which we consider the system of
expressive means, conceptual space, chronotope, the architectonics of the work, is characterized as
exploratory way to enable the anagram in the context of the interpretation of the poem. The article
can be used as a practical guide in the development of language arts.

Radbil T.B. The Verbs “Stoyat’” (“to Stand”), “Sidet’” (“to Sit”), “Lezhat’” (“to Lie”) in Contexts
of Existential Usage.
The article treats peculiarities of secondary metaphorical usages of the Russian positional verbs
“stoyat’” (“to stand”), “sidet’” (“to sit”), “lezhat’” (“to lie”) in contexts of actualization of being or
location meanings. The author arrives at the conclusion that these usages reflect general tendency to
“conceptual embodiment” of ideas about reality phenomena in Russian.

Barandeev A.V. Culture of toponymic research and pseudoscientific etymology.
The article considers the problem of improving the culture of toponymic research associated with

are identified, their essence is disclosed. The value of toponymic work in the school and university
practice is determined.
