Alvear F., Gerardo R. is principal
metallurgist at Xstrata Technology in
Brisbane, Australia. He earned his
Dr.Eng. in 1995 in
Materials Science
and Engineering at Nagoya
University, Japan.
Dr. Alvear is an
18-year member
of TMS and is also a member of the
Pyrometallurgy Committee. He enjoys
orienteering with his family. Page 60.
Bakker, Martin L. is principal
metallurgist at Xstrata Technology in
Brisbane, Australia. He earned his
Ph.D. in 1990 in
Materials Science
at the University of New South
Wales with over
20 years experience in ferrous
and non-ferrous metallurgy. Dr. Bakker was awarded a Ph.D. from UNSW
in 1990 for research into coke degradation properties in the ironmaking
blast furnace. Since 2006, he has been
a principal metallurgist in the technology transfer for the ISASMELT™
process for copper smelting and converting, lead smelting, zinc fuming,
and nickel smelting and converting. Dr
Bakker joined TMS in 2005. Page 60.
Homsi, Pierre is a technology consultant retired from Rio Tinto Alcan where
he was the director
of AP Technology
Sales. He earned
his Ph.D. in 1975
in Electrochemistry at Paris 6 University. Dr. Homsi
has been a member of TMS for
almost 20 years and has served as the
Aluminum Committee advisor to JOM.

Nikolic, Stanko is a metallurgical

Australia. He earned
his Ph.D. in 2009

Engineering

the University of
Queensland. Dr.
Nikolic
joined
TMS in 2006 as
a Ph.D. student member. In 2010 he
was the recipient of the EPD Science
Award. In 2006, Dr. Nikolic was part
of the University of Queensland Mining Games winning team. Page 60.
Nayak, Subhadarshi is a senior engineer and co-founder of Science Tomorrow, LLC, a
research company.
He earned his
Ph.D. in 2004 in
Materials Science
and Engineering
at the University
of Tennessee. Dr.
Nayak has been a
member of TMS for over 10 years and
is currently a member of the Content

Putilin, Aleksandr is an assistant
professor with 23 years of service at
the Urals State Technical University
(USTU) in Russia where he earned his
Ph.D. in 1989 in
Electrolytic Produce and Refining of Titanium.
He joined TMS in
2010. Dr. Putilin
also writes poetry,
some of which
was published in
a book of poetry of the professors of
the Metallurgical Department, USTU,
in honor of the 300th Urals Metallurgy
