Objective: Add, Subtract, Multiply, and Divide both positive and negative numbers together
Adding & Subtracting Positive and Negative Numbers:
**Remember to simplify any "double" signs first and then simplify**
Positive + Positive = Positive 5 + 3 = 8 Negative + Negative = Negative
(­ 6) + (­ 3) = ­ 9 (­ 6) + 3 = ­3
Sum of a negative and a positive number. Keep the sign of the larger number and subtract
9 + (­12) = ­ 3 (­ 5) + 7 = 2
4 + ( ­2) = 2.
Negative ­ Positive = Negative (same as adding two negative numbers)
(­ 8) ­ 3 = ­8 + (­3) = ­11
Positive ­ Negative = Positive + 4 ­ (­3) = 4 + 3 = 7 Positive = Positive
Negative ­ Negative = Negative + (­7) ­ (­5) = ( ­7) + 5 = ­2
Positive =Keep the sign of the (­5) ­ ( ­7) = (­5) + 7 = 2
