Guidance for celebrating Milton Keynes at 50

Guidance for celebrating Milton Keynes at 50
In 2017, Milton Keynes will be 50 years old and we aim to celebrate locally, and share with
the world that MK is an amazing place to live, work and visit. Visit www.MK50.com for the
latest news and information on what’s happening and when.
If you’re reading this guidance you’re probably interested in getting involved by holding an
event, promoting MK, or using the MK50 official logo. Here’s what you need to know.
If you have any questions, please email us at [email protected].
The logo
The MK50 logo is based on the official MK city logo and it’s free to use.
It comes in a number of colourways including a mono version and we simply ask that
you don’t change the colour, add to the logo (without written permission from the
council) or stretch it from its original ratio. You can download digital versions of the
logo from www.MK50.com.
Other graphics and templates for popular items such as flags and posters will be added
to the website later this year. These will also be free to use.

Promoting MK
As well as creating local pride and entertainment, MK’s 50th birthday is a great opportunity
to get potential visitors to realise there’s more to MK than concrete cows and roundabouts!
To help you spread the message about how great MK is, we’ve produced some key
messages and a suite of photos that are free to use. You can find them at www.amazingmk.co.uk
You may also like to know:
• Milton Keynes’ official birthday is 23 January 2017.
• www.MK50.co.uk will be updated with news and information ahead of and throughout
our birthday year.
• You can follow Milton Keynes Council on social media to get real time news – we’ll be
using the hashtag #MK50 and please use this on your posts too. Follow us on Twitter at
@cultureMK and @MKCouncil.
Getting involved
Milton Keynes Council is facilitating the MK50 programme but we know it’s the efforts of
individuals, communities and organisations that will make MK’s birthday a success.
You’re free to use the logo and tell people that you’re celebrating MK50. You don’t need
council permission.
However, if you’re holding a community event, let us know so we can promote your event
on the www.MK50.com event calendar and on social media. Please use the link on the
events page to send us your details.
We’re also producing packs of 50x MK50 printed balloons which are free for you to use.
You simply need to arrange your own supply of helium and ribbon. Email us at
[email protected] if you’d like a pack.
If you need guidance on road closures because you are holding a street party or similar
event, please visit www.milton-keynes.gov.uk/road-closures.
We do ask that you avoid the use of phrases like ‘official event’, ‘official merchandise’ or
‘official partner’ as MK50 is owned by everyone which means we all have equal rights to
get involved.
