Dear Parents,
Gospel of Sunday 12th February 2017
Jesus said to his disciples, “Do not imagine that I have come to destroy what the Law or the Prophets
taught. No, I have come to make them complete – to show you what they meant. I tell you truly, until
heaven and earth disappear, not one dot, not one little stroke of a pen, shall disappear from the Law until
its purpose is achieved. Anyone who breaks one of the least of these commandments and teaches others to
do the same will be called least in the kingdom of heaven, but whoever practises and teaches these
commands, will be called great in the kingdom of heaven.”
(Matthew 5:17-37) The 6th Sunday of Ordinary Time, Year A)
LOVE THY NEIGHBOUR WEEK AT ST. MARK’S
As previously mentioned, next week we will be showing acts of love and kindness to our neighbours.
Having gathered lots of wonderful ideas from our children we have decided on three acts of kindness;
these are: Visiting elderly residents locally, organising a coffee morning within the parish and donating
foods supplies to the wider community. Next week we will begin with the first of these acts of kindness,
with the others to follow within the liturgical season of Lent.
PARAOLYMPICS COME TO ST. MARK’S
Last Friday, St. Marks were lucky enough to have a special visit from a Paralympian - Danielle Brown.
The children completed a circuit of 4 exercises with enthusiasm and determination. Afterwards, we were
able to listen to Danielle tell her inspirational story of how she went from loving all sports to
unfortunately not being able to take part due to her condition. She then went onto to practice archery
showing grit and determination in her sport. The children and staff were so engaged in her story and she
left us with a positive message – To believe in ourselves. A huge thank you to the children for taking
part and yourselves for assisting them with gathering sponsors.
Best attendance for week ending 10th February – Year 1 with 99.26% attendance –

HAIRSTYLES
We would just like to remind you that no extreme haircuts, including shaved patterns or dyed hair
are allowed at school. For further details see the school planner. Also if you are unsure about any
aspect of uniform/PE kit/ hairstyles etc. please check our school website for more information.
FOOTWEAR
We would also like to remind parents, children should wear school shoes in school as opposed to boots,
as we are witnessing an increasing number of inappropriate footwear.
PARENT CONSULTATION WEEK – W/c 27th February 2017
Parent consultation meetings will take place week commencing 27th February – holding them
throughout the day and involving the children in the consultation to ensure that they are fully involved
with the discussion about their progress and targets for the remainder of the year. We had very positive
feedback from parents who found the process very helpful in supporting their children
to achieve their end of year targets. A separate letter regarding specific dates for the
consultations were sent out earlier this week. Appointment times will be given out via
children’s diaries on Friday 17th February 2017.
CONGRATULATIONS:
I am sure that it comes as no surprise that Mrs Linley is expecting her first child. She
is going on maternity leave at some point in the summer term and intends to return to
us at St. Mark’s next year. We wish her and father to be Mr Linley, all the very best
with the latter stages of pregnancy.
“BY THE WAY… FACT OF THE DAY”
Please help your child to learn and remember this week’s “Fact of the Day”. They will be encouraged to
recite this fact on a number of occasions.
