
The 12th edition of the FIFA Club World Cup will be held in Japan.

To date, three Brazilian clubs (Corinthians in 2000 & 2012, São Paulo FC in 2005, and Sport Club International in
2006), two Italian clubs (AC Milan in 2007 and FC Internazionale in 2010), two Spanish clubs (FC Barcelona in 2009
and 2011, and Real Madrid in 2014), one English club (Manchester United in 2008), and one German club (Bayern
München in 2013) have won the FIFA Club World Cup.

FC Barcelona (ESP) and Corinthians (BRA) are the only clubs to have won the tournament twice.

So far, 54 different teams have participated in the FIFA Club World Cup. Only one team has competed in six editions
of this tournament, Auckland City FC (NZL), making the upcoming 2015 competition the seventh.

Auckland City FC and Al Ahly SC have played the most matches in this event, with twelve matches each.

Daniel Koprivcic (NZL) is the only player to have played in six editions of the FIFA Club World Cup. The midfielder
saw action in 2007 and 2008 with Waitakere United, and featured in four tournaments with Auckland City in 2009,
2011, 2012 and 2013.

The Brazilians Dida and Danilo, Spain’s Thiago, Portugal’s Cristiano Ronaldo and Germany’s Toni Kroos are the only
players to have won the tournament twice with two different teams. Goalkeeper Dida with Corinthians (BRA) in
2000 and AC Milan (ITA) in 2007; Danilo with São Paulo FC (BRA) in 2005 and with Corinthians (BRA) in 2012;
Thiago with FC Barcelona (ESP) in 2011 and Bayern München (GER) in 2013, Cristiano Ronaldo with Manchester
United (ENG) in 2008 and Real Madrid (ESP) in 2014, and Toni Kroos with Bayern München (GER) in 2013 and Real

Filippo Inzaghi (ITA) and Lionel Messi (ARG) are the only players who have scored a brace in a FIFA Club World Cup
final match. In 2007 Inzaghi scored two goals for AC Milan (ITA) against Boca Juniors (ARG). Messi’s two goals were
for FC Barcelona (ESP) in the 2011 final against Santos FC (BRA).

Lionel Messi (ARG) has scored the most final match goals; one in the 2009 final against Estudiantes La Plata (ARG)
and two in the 2011 final against Santos FC (BRA).

Ronaldinho (FC Barcelona and Clube Atlético Mineiro), Dwight Yorke (Manchester United and Sydney FC) and Neri
Cardozo (Boca Juniors and Monterrey) are the only players to have scored for more than one team in the
competition.

Topping the overall list of goalscorers with five goals is Argentinian player César Delgado (2012, 2013).

Western Sydney Wanderer’s Iacopo La Rocca’s (ITA) goal against Cruz Azul (MEX) in the most recent event in 2014
was the 250th goal in the history of the FIFA Club World Cup.

The 2013 edition of the FIFA Club World Cup went down in history with the highest goal average of 3.5 (28 goals
in 8 matches).

The adidas Golden Boot was presented once in 2000 and has not been awarded since. The adidas Golden Ball and
the FIFA Fair Play Award, however, have been presented since the tournament’s inception in 2000.

Five consecutive finals between 2005 and 2009 were all between teams from South America and Europe, but that
run ended in 2010 when TP Mazembe Englebert (COD) played FC Internazionale (ITA), thereby becoming the first
African team to reach the final of the FIFA Club World Cup.

FIFA Club World Cup 2015 Winner’s Trophy
Designer
Thomas Fattorini Ltd, Birmingham, UK
Jane Powell (lead), Dawn Forbes
Manufacturer
Thomas Fattorini Ltd, Birmingham, UK
Description
The design shows six staggered pillars, representing the six participating teams from the respective six
Confederations, and one separate metal structure referencing the winner of the competition. They
hold up a globe in the shape of a football – a consistent feature amongst almost all of FIFA’s event
trophies.
The graceful curves and inherent strength of the trophy evoke the balletic and athletic qualities
necessary to successfully compete in the FIFA Club World Cup and the tension and movement
describe the competitive energy amongst the participants.

History
Intercontinental and Toyota Cup
Between 1960 and 1968, the Intercontinental Cup was a competition endorsed by UEFA and CONMEBOL and contested
between the winners of the European Champions’ Cup and the South American Copa Libertadores. The system of play was a
home-and-away series, decided by points only (the same format used by CONMEBOL to determine the winner of the Copa
Libertadores final until 1987). Because of this format, a third match was needed when both teams were tied on points.
From 1969 to 1979, the Intercontinental Cup continued as a two-leg competition between the UEFA and the CONMEBOL club
champions. However, it adopted the European standard method to decide the winner by adding the goals of both matches to the
aggregate score.
As of 1980 and until 2004, the competition was held as a single match in Tokyo and Yokohama, Japan. It was called the
Toyota Cup, named after its sponsor.
FIFA Club World Cup
The first FIFA Club World Cup was held in 2000 in Brazil with the participation of the club champions of all six confederations
(AFC, CAF, CONCACAF, CONMEBOL, OFC and UEFA). In addition to those six teams, two additional competitors were invited: Real
Madrid from Spain as the Toyota Cup winner of 1998 and the Brazilian host team, Corinthians, who went on to win the trophy.
In 2005 the Toyota Cup merged with the FIFA Club World Cup. This competition has since been played under the auspices of FIFA
and between the club champions from the six Confederations (UEFA’s and CONMEBOL’s representative entering the competition
in the semi-finals).
As from 2007 the host’s top team has also participated. In 2007, as a Japanese team won the AFC Champions League, the highest
placed non-Japanese team of the AFC Champions League had a play-off for the quarter-finals with the OFC representative.
After four consecutive years of Japan’s hosting of the FIFA Club World Cup the competition was awarded to the United Arab
Emirates for two years before returning to Japan for another two editions. In 2013 and 2014 host nation Morocco provided a
superb setting for the tournament, with good-sized crowds at all the matches and a magnificent atmosphere throughout. The next
FIFA Club World Cup will be held again in Japan between 10 and 20 December 2015.
