PICTON HIGH SCHOOL
Preliminary Biology Research Assignment
2017
Students are required to research information from a wide range of secondary sources in order to
complete the questions. Students are to submit a hand written copy of the assessment. Please
ensure that you adhere to the word and page limits, as marks will be deducted for failure to do so.
You work is to be your own!
Part 1: Answer the following questions.
Compare: Show similarities and differences
Contrast: Show how things are different or opposite
NOTE: Compare /Contrast
questions can be completed as
a written response or

Part 2: Design and carryout an experiment. Fill in the sections below.
Plan, choose equipment or resources and perform a first-hand investigation to gather and present
information about flowers of native species of angiosperms to identify features that may be adaptations for
wind and insect/bird/mammal pollination.
Dot Point Break Down:
Resources: It is difficult to gather data on flowering plants as most do not produce flowers all
year round. PHOTOGRAPHS can therefore be downloaded and printed as a resource for the
investigation.
First Hand Investigation: A first hand investigation means that you are collecting data or making
observations about something. This does not mean that you are researching someone else’s work.
Angiosperms: These are flowering plants.
Adaptations: Features that are beneficial to an organism.
