welcome to our school Mrs. Jumanah our new Arabic teacher.
OVER the last few weeks we have been working on the Aldar Academies value of ‘excellence’. Later this month we will start considering the
importance of ’creativity’. To start this we are having a themed week about STEM subjects. We have lots of exciting and creative tasks for the

child’s teacher know. We are also collecting cardboard boxes and unwanted electrical equipment for the children to take apart!
LEARNING to read is one of the most important this we do in school – so it was great to see our book fair bring so well supported this week.
We hope the children enjoy their super new books.
SOME FS2 families used our Pink room for an informal coffee morning this week. This is an activity we welcome other years to do too – just
have a work with your child’s teacher to fix a date and time.
WELL done to Hawksbills class who had the best attendance last week. They will enjoy a special treat with their teacher.
WE are so pleased that – following our family consultation that families are using the birthday treats initiative to encourage healthy eating.
We say happy birthday to Hamnah in FS2 who brought in some healthy fruit for her friends to share.
Next week there will be no newsletter – so – please remember these dates – as always full details on the portal.
23rd Oct. – after assembly (approx. 8:15) meet the counsellor – informal coffee morning – all welcome.
27th Oct
– Pink day – children welcome to wear pink.
– 7:15 Fun and Fitness for children and families – start the day with fun and easy circuit session with your child.

ON line safety
In school this week we have been thinking about keeping children safe on-line.
This site has been recommended to us – families may find it helpful in helping to ensure their children are safe on line and on their
phones etc. It also contains helpful advice about age suitability for games and films
https://www.commonsensemedia.org/
- No clubs next week – apart from
sports fixtures, sailing, horse riding,
and swimming on Sunday due to family
conferencing.
- No school hat (old or new style) = no
play!

PE News:
It was a strong week for Al Muna sports teams with the girls football team returning two strong wins against GEMS and Al Yasmina,
after a tough week last week. Well done girls! The mixed touch rugby team also delivered a sparkling result with a second place
finish in a very close final against Brighton College A team. On the road to the final they delivered good results against the strongest
teams in the league. Exceptional performances all round!
In PE the year groups are starting to wind up to the end of the first block of work and classes are working hard. As the weather
begins to cool down we are going to be moving our lessons outside. Please remember the students need water at their lessons
whether we are inside or out – hydration is so important to both participation and performances!

Message from Madame Martine
First of all, I would like to let you know that I will be in the Music Room next Tuesday for parent’s meeting, feel free to drop in to see
me then. Otherwise you can reach me on my email [email protected].
In year 3 this week we have been revising the numbers 0-20, this leads onto learning higher numbers as have begun to learn the
days of the week and months of the year to be able to ask and respond to someone, telling them how old they are and when their
birthday is.
Quel âge as-tu – J’ai ____ ans
Quelle est la date de ton anniversaire? Mon anniversaire est le ____ (number) ______ (month)
A revision page for this: www.digitaldialects.com/French/Daysmonths.htm
A brief clip talking about birthdays: www.youtube.com/watch?v=6286ssjv3AA
In year 4 have been continuing to describe our lego people/monsters using our knowledge of naming body parts and colours. We
have looked at in particular adjectival position and agreement. The colour as is Arabic comes after the noun e.g. la jambe rouge
then remembering the agreements, if it is feminine/and or plural e.g. les jambes rouges, it was great to see how quickly the classes
picked up on this.
We are now looking at adjectives to describe characteristics. www.agreenmouse.com/french-character-resource-adjectives/
In year 5 I have asked the classes whoever wishes to do so to create information packs about Abu Dhabi, the UAE to exchange with a
Francophone Year 5 class in Spain. We are revising the general place names in a town/city and how to say in French why the classes
like living in the UAE and how to understand/ give general directions.
In year 6 we have continued to talk about sports hobbies, we have also revised previous topics, the weather, higher numbers to 100
and beyond and telling the time, rooms in a house, food and drink items etc. Next week we will go onto asking and talking about our
daily routines.
Please see www.bbc.co.uk/schools/primarylanguages/french/school_day/daily_routines/
Please use the website, as it allows the children to work independently practise everyday vocabulary and phrases, from a variety of
French and Arabic curricula, it can be used to practise topic work that is being covered in class. I am pleased that the children are
using this in both French and Arabic.

Who is afraid of big, black spider??- Definitely NOT FS1 children!!!
This week the children enjoyed learning the song ‘Incy Wincy Spider’, moving like spiders on the web in the big playground and making
spider’s webs with glitter and glue – very messy but great fun!! They listened carefully to ‘Aaaaarghh Spider!’ and some of them now
want a spider as a pet!
We were learning some fascinating facts about the spiders and now everyone knows that the spider has four legs on both sides!!! In our
Shared Area we had a real bog and guess what??? We found different insects leaving there! We also used the magnifying glass while
going around the school for the spider hunt. What fun!!
Next week- to finish our Nursery Rhymes topic we are going to check what can we see on the dark, night sky….
FS2
This week in FS2, we have been reading ‘Room on the Broom’. Our favourite part was when the swamp monster scared away the
dragon! We’ve had lots of fun talking about the setting and the characters in the book. Ask us who our favourite character is. We also
loved learning how to take away and talking about what we do every day from waking up to going back to bed again!
Next week we are learning all about the story of ‘UP’ and talking about going on our own adventures.

also been learning our number bonds to 10. In English we have been looking and recipes and imperative verbs. We have identified
imperative verbs in a piece of writing and are beginning to write our own recipes. We had to tell our partner how to make a jam
sandwich, using full sentences and using the imperative verbs. In topic, we have been continuing to make, edit and improve our
healthy snacks.
6TH FEB
Next week we are going to continue with addition and look at 1 more and 1 less. In English we are going to learn about the story ‘the
hungry caterpillar’ where we will reorder the story and also begin to think about where the butterfly might have gone. In topic we will
be focusing on computing, creating our own videos as TV chefs.
Year 2
This week has been extremely exciting because we had a special visit from The Bookworm book fair. Each class had an opportunity
to visit the book fair and purchase picture books, chapter books and non-fiction books. The children worked hard with their Maths
adding up to total cost of their books. In maths we have been working hard to double numbers, some of us have been using dienes
cubes and counters to help us.
Next week we will be linking our English topic (weather reports) and Science topic (food) together and we will be reading the story
‘Cloudy with a chance of Meatballs’. Children will be creating their own maps and create their own foot weather symbols. In maths
next week we will be looking at money and setting up our own class shops.

Year 5 and Year 6
Year 5
This week Year 5 students have been putting their journalistic hats on. They have been considering what it must have been like in
1969 when the first men landed on the moon. They have thought of interesting, open ended questions, taken notes whilst listening to
responses from Neil Armstrong and his wife about their experiences and feelings, thought of creative headlines and written a news
article. Next week we will be starting to read the book The Iron Man, we will be specifically looking at character descriptions and
using complex sentences. In maths we will be continuing our work on multiples, division, factors and fractions.

Year 6
We have seen some fantastic homework projects making their way into school already for this half term! Thank you for supporting
your children in this new approach. A reminder that children have until 3rd November to complete and return their projects to
share with the rest of the year group. This week, we have seen a wonderful approach to work from children in their English work on
balanced arguments; the staff have all been impressed with the confidence they show in sharing their opinions, and we look forward
to using this for some amazing writing next week.
9TH FEB
Since the beginning of the term, we have been using our shared area to explore a variety of curricular task. The children really enjoy
this time and have produced some brilliant independent work as a result. We are also speeding up our transitions between lessons
with some catchy music, creating a happy, positive atmosphere in Year 5/6.
