THE PENINSULA SHANGHAI HOSTS THE SECOND ANNUAL FINE SCULPTURE
ART EXHIBITION, AND UNVEILS A BESPOKE ARTWORK BY IRA REINES
FOR PERMANENT DISPLAY AT THE HOTEL
The Peninsula Shanghai is proud to host the second annual Fine Sculpture Art Exhibition in partnership
with California-based Galerie Simard Bilodeau. Located in the New York Room, the six-month
exhibition will showcase sculptures and sculptural installations by celebrated North American master
sculptors. A gala opening ceremony and private viewing for invited guests will be hosted at The Lobby
on Friday, 30 October 2015. During the ceremony, Galerie Simard Bilodeau will unveil The Three
Graces, a site-specific monumental bronze sculpture by Ira Reines made possible by a collaborative
effort between Galerie Simard Bilodeau, Masterpiece Publishing, Inc., Winn-Slavin Fine Art and the
artist, for permanent display at The Peninsula Shanghai, in The Lobby. The artist, and his muse, Loni
Anderson, will both attend the ceremony.
The monumental The Three Graces sculpture combines three partially formed figures representing the
universal human values of Faith, Hope and Charity. Sculpted especially for The Peninsula Shanghai by
Ira Reines, the installation reflects the shared artistic origins of the hotel and its creator. The Peninsula
Shanghai draws its design inspiration from the Art Deco movement of the 1920s and 1930s, and the
father of Art Deco, Erté, was Ira Reines creative mentor.
Born in New York, Ira Reines began sculpting at the age of five, and later founded the Sculptural
Etherealism movement. His bronze and Lucite sculptures depict intricately formed figures of near-perfect
beauty in poses of extreme balance. His works can be found at leading art institutions worldwide,
including the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, Smithsonian Institution in Washington, D.C.,
and the Victoria and Albert Museum in London.
The six-month Fine Sculpture Art Exhibition, which is jointly curated by French Canadians Guy Simard
and Eve-Marie Bilodeau, the proprietors of Galerie Simard Bilodeau located in Laguna Beach, CA, and
renowned American fine art curator Daniel Winn is the latest eclectic cultural event at The Peninsula
Shanghai.. The Fine Sculpture Art Exhibition debuted at The Peninsula Shanghai in October 2014, and
featured bronze sculptures by M.L. Snowden, a protégé of French Master Sculptor, Auguste Rodin, and
Ira Reines.
The Fine Sculpture Art Exhibition at The Peninsula Shanghai gives local art enthusiasts and collectors an
opportunity to view a part of Galerie Simard Bilodeau’s peerless collection of sculptures and installations.
As successful art consultants and collectors, Eve-Marie Bilodeau and Guy Simard have a unique
understanding of global art markets, and the rising demand for bronze sculptures by Chinese collectors.
To complement the hosting of the Fine Art Exhibition, The Peninsula Shanghai will present a special
dinner for PenKey members and ICBC premier members. An educational sculpture session will also be
conducted on Saturday 31 October for students of the Sculpture Faculty of Shanghai University.
The Fine Sculpture Art Exhibition in the New York Room, on the 14th floor of The Peninsula Shanghai,
will be open to the public from 31st October 2015 to 31st March 2016. For further details, please visit:
