Administrator The celebration of Easter continues, but is the Easter fire still aflame with the Resurrection in your heart? This week in the Acts of the Apostles, we hear about the Evangelization of the world continuing with great vigor into the gentile world. How much vigor do we have for the Resurrection? Are we sharing the Love Christ has for us with the rest of the world? Christ commands us in the gospel to “Love one another”; a phrase we have heard many times before. This command is exactly what Christ did for us through the Incarnation, Crucifixion, and Resurrection. God loved us so much so that He sent his Son to us for our redemption. Christ suffered the Cross for our sake, not his own. In the same way, Christ is commanding us to love the people around us. Not for our own good, but for the good of those other people. We exemplify our love for others by offering our prayers for them, committing charitable acts of mercy, and proclaiming Christ to the world. Loving one another is about showing Christ to each other. God is love, and so making Jesus—the second person of the Trinity—the center of our way of life, makes love the center of our life. Imagine our community and how fulfilling and attractive it would be if we as a parish showed this truth to each other everyday. Essentially, a Catholic is called to love everyone. This does not mean you need to like everyone. Clearly a person who harms us physically or robs from us is someone we won’t like. However, we still must love him or her. This means that anything we do to people—whether we like or dislike them—must be done for their best good. “Do onto others what is best for them” is the understanding behind the “Golden Rule”. Jesus went to the cross and was resurrected for our good, not God’s. God does not need us, but God loves us. God wants what is best for us, and we need to follow that example and let the flame of His Spirit stir our hearts.
