Fifth Sunday of Easter
April 24, 2016
On behalf of the clients of the Sister Dolores Social Outreach Program,
we offer a heart felt thank you to the St. Rose of Lima community for your
unwavering support in helping the needy in the city of Chula Vista. A special
thank you to all our St Rose volunteers who have dedicated their time and
talent to serve the poor and the homeless.
We wanted to share some exciting news. Our parish and social outreach
program was awarded the “2016 Excellence in Nutrition” award from
Feeding America –San Diego for our commitment in providing nutritious
fruits and vegetables to our clients through our Fresh to Families project.
Please join us on Sat, April 30th and Sunday May 1st as we celebrate
the Sister Dolores Thrift Store’s 3rd birthday and anniversary. We are so
thankful for all your donations to the store. Sales have exceeded over
$30,000 this fiscal year alone!
We are pleased to share that our program will once again be the recipient of
the “Scouting for Food Community Drive” being held April 23rd through May
5th here at St Rose of Lima Parish. Every donated item helps our program
provide groceries to families that face food insecurity in our community.

The celebration of Easter continues, but is the Easter fire
still aflame with the Resurrection in your heart? This week in the
Acts of the Apostles, we hear about the Evangelization of the world
continuing with great vigor into the gentile world. How much vigor
do we have for the Resurrection? Are we sharing the Love Christ
has for us with the rest of the world? Christ commands us in the
gospel to “Love one another”; a phrase we have heard many times
before. This command is exactly what Christ did for us through the
Incarnation, Crucifixion, and Resurrection.
God loved us so much so that He sent his Son to us for our
redemption. Christ suffered the Cross for our sake, not his own.
In the same way, Christ is commanding us to love the people
around us. Not for our own good, but for the good of those other
people.
We exemplify our love for others by offering our prayers for them,
committing charitable acts of mercy, and proclaiming Christ to the
world. Loving one another is about showing Christ to each other.
God is love, and so making Jesus—the second person of the Trinity—the center of our way of life, makes love the center of our life.
Imagine our community and how fulfilling and attractive it would
be if we as a parish showed this truth to each other everyday.
Essentially, a Catholic is called to love everyone. This
does not mean you need to like everyone. Clearly a person who
harms us physically or robs from us is someone we won’t like.
However, we still must love him or her. This means that anything
we do to people—whether we like or dislike them—must be done
for their best good. “Do onto others what is best for them” is the
understanding behind the “Golden Rule”.
Jesus went to the cross and was resurrected for our good,
not God’s. God does not need us, but God loves us. God wants
what is best for us, and we need to follow that example and let the
flame of His Spirit stir our hearts.

Our Blessed Mother wants to visit your homes and spend a week
or two with your families in praying the rosary and the Divine Mercy
Chaplet. You may invite Her any time during the year or in celebrations like birthdays and anniversaries. You may also invite Her when
you need comfort and healing. The members of the Filipino-American Association of St. Rose of Lima Parish (FASRL) will be happy
to accommodate your request and will join you in your prayers. We
normally schedule the transfer of the image of Our Lady of Fatima
on Tuesdays but we try to lend flexibility to our schedule upon special requests. We would like to reach out to all parishioners and our
community to participate in this year-long recitation of the rosary
and spread the devotion to our Blessed Virgin Mary. For more information and reservation please call Lolita at (619) 421-6097 or
