Strategic Instruction Model ®
Sentence Writing Strategy Workshop
This two-day workshop will introduce teachers to the founda ons of the Strategic
Instruc on Model® (SIM®) and will prepare them to implement research-based
interven ons to help students acquire strategies for wri ng and edi ng sentences for
effec ve wri en communica on. The Sentence Wri ng Strategy series, a two-part
program that includes the Fundamentals and Proficiency levels, is targeted towards
students in grades 4 through 12 who struggle with wri en expression. In addi on to a wri ng
strategy, students are taught 14 sentence formulas used to create four types of sentences:
• simple • compound • complex • compound-complex

UGA River’s Crossing, Athens, GA
Registration starts at 8:00 am, Class from 8:30-5:00
Cost
$275
Registration fee includes, parking pass, 2 instructor’s manuals, 2 student lessons books,
packets of training materials, as well as supplemental handouts and power points sent
electronically following the workshop to augment instruction. Successful completion of
this workshop will provide 1 PLU for eligible participants.

Registration fees are non-refundable after September 18th.
Lunch
Participants are on their own for a one-hour lunch break; it is suggested that
restaurants near River’s Crossing be considered in the interest of time.

Please note: Implementation and use of most materials from the Strategic Instruction Model ® ,
such as those provided for this two-day workshop, require instruction by a University of Kansas
Center for Research on Learning (KUCRL) approved Professional Developer. Participants in these
Sentence Writing Strategy sessions will receive two Instructor Manuals, two books of reproducible
Student Materials, and will be able to instruct their students in the strategy. It is suggested that
co-teachers attend the session together.
