Universal Search
Feature Description:
Universal Search is a new optional search interface that lets patrons search for all available
resources, such as books, eBooks, and digital content from WebPath Express or One Search.
Feature Information:
Configuring Universal Search
In order to use Universal Search, you must ensure:
• Destiny is available on the Web.
• Your district Destiny URL is configured.
• A valid port (80 or 443) is used.
If you are using Internet Explorer, Universal Search requires IE9 or IE10. Universal Search cannot
be accessed in the IE Compatibility View, which is used for accessing sites that were designed for
IE8 or earlier. If your district uses specific websites that require Compatibility View, your district
can list the specific URLs that require Compatibility View. The global options Display all websites in
Compatibility View and Display intranet sites in Compatibility View should be unchecked in Internet
Explorer’s Compatibility View Settings.
For more information on system requirements, see Destiny Help > Home > Technical Docs >
Destiny System Requirements – Workstation and Mobile Devices.
When you install or upgrade to Destiny 12.0, if Destiny is not able to authenticate the correct
URLs with Universal Search, the Destiny Admin user will receive a message upon signing in that
an externally available URL and port must be configured to use Universal Search. You can click the
Don’t remind me again checkbox to make the message permanently disappear.
To configure Universal Search:
1.Login as a Destiny Admin.
2.On the District Welcome page, select Setup > District Options.
3.Click Edit next to Universal Search Settings.
© Copyright 2014 Follett School Solutions, Inc.
8
4.Enter the Destiny Server External Address and the Port.
5.Click Save.
After Universal Search is configured, permissions will be available and need to be enabled for
patrons to see the Universal Search option.
Entering and Exiting Universal Search
Only patrons with the Search using Universal Search permission will see Universal Search on the
Catalog tab. When a patron selects Universal Search, it opens in the same window.
Guests that have the Allow Guests to exit Universal Search permission, as well as all logged-in
patrons, have the Exit link. After clicking the Exit link, the Universal Search page in Destiny opens.

9
What’s New in Destiny 12.0
Logging In
Patrons that are logged into Destiny will not have to log into Universal Search. A patron can be one
of three types in Universal Search:
• Guest: These patrons can search for materials.
• Shared Account: (from Follett Shelf—previously Guest): These patrons can search for materials
and open Follett eBooks. If they want to check out or hold an eBook, they must log in with their
personal credentials.
• Logged-In User: When a patron clicks or taps the Login link, a login box appears.
A successful login presents the patron with features based on the patron’s permissions. The
patron’s name appears at the top.
If the credentials don’t match, an error message appears and the patron gets another chance to log
in.
Logging Out
A Logout link appears on desktops, tablets, and phones. When a patron clicks the link, Universal
Search closes the user’s session and reopens the main Universal Search page.
Searching
Patrons can search using:
• Keyword (default; accepts any search term, including ISBN)
• Title
• Author
• Subject
• Series
• Note
• ISBN
• Tags (searches curriculum tags if the patron, usually a teacher, has the Search curriculum tags
permission)
Note: Due to space limitations, these search options do not appear on phones.
© Copyright 2014 Follett School Solutions, Inc.
10
(For Keyword searches only) When a patron begins to enter search criteria into the search box, the
following occurs:
• Universal Search offers up to 10 suggestions.
• Only suggestions that produce positive results appear.
• Universal Search’s suggestion service uses a customized dictionary to filter out profanities and
misspellings.
It does not look at Destiny’s filtered terms list (Back Office > Site Configuration > Catalog >
Search Settings) or the district’s stop word list (Update District Options > District Stop Words).
After a patron types their search term, the search results appear on the All tab. Ribbons appear, if
there are search results, in the following order:
• Books
• eBooks
• Websites (Includes the One Search databases configured in Destiny. WebPath Express will also
appear, if your school subscribes.)
• Curriculum tags (if applicable)
The Sort by drop-down options are sticky for the session. If there are more than eight results on
the page, patrons can click the See more results link at the bottom of the list.
If search results can be narrowed, limiter(s) appear in the Narrow by list; otherwise, limiters do
not appear.
On the cover of a title is a badge indicating the title’s availability. The only statuses that appear
are In or Out, or in the case of Follett Shelf eBooks, Unlimited (infinity symbol). No availability is
shown for publisher-hosted content.

11
What’s New in Destiny 12.0
eBooks
• The Open button appears on Search Results and Title Details for Follett Shelf eBooks if there are
copies available.
• Logged-in patrons (Destiny or Shared Account) can click the Open button to read eBooks online.
Patrons do not need to install the Enlight reader for Follett Shelf eBooks because the reader is
incorporated into Universal Search. Non-Follett Shelf eBooks will open the website listed in the
item’s MARC record 856 tag.
• If there are no copies available, the Open button is replaced by a Hold button.
• A copy opened at the same time by another patron is marked In Use.
• Clicking the Open button without being logged in will cause a login dialog box to appear.
• The Checkout button will appear if copies are available.
• If a logged-in patron has the title checked out, they see a Return Early button.
• Publisher-hosted content will just show an Open button.
• Unlimited titles always have an Open button and a Checkout button but never a Hold button.
• The permission to place a hold on a Follett Shelf eBook comes from Follett Shelf.
Tags
• Tags empower users with the Search curriculum tags permission (generally teachers) to easily
find the best educationally relevant materials.
• Curriculum tags are applied to titles by curriculum experts at Follett.
• Tags apply not only to titles purchased from Titlewave but to any title with ISBN tagged by
Follett experts.

Servicing Teams
Feature Description:
In version 11.5 of Destiny, schools and districts could create servicing teams responsible for asset
repairs, designate a team head, and assign teams to the asset templates. Now, you can add, edit,
and delete servicing team members and the head of a servicing team. Help tickets assigned to a
servicing team or team member appear in the Help Ticket History and on the Deleted Assets report.
Feature Information:
Add Members to a Servicing Team
You can add, edit, and delete members of a Servicing Team and name a head of the team. The
servicing team is visible across the district; however, team members are site-specific.
To add members to a servicing team:
1.Select Catalog > Add Asset > Edit Templates.
2.Add a new template or edit an existing template.

24
3.Select the Assign repair responsibility checkbox if not already selected.
4.Next to Servicing Team, click Other.
5.Click the Edit icon.
6.Search for and select a patron for the team. You cannot assign a patron to a team if that patron
has only a district login.

Assign a Help Ticket to a Team Member
Help tickets created in the Catalog or in MyInfo are automatically assigned to the head of the team.
With access to the Back Office tab, Help Tickets option, you can create help tickets and now you
can reassign tickets.
To assign a help ticket to a team member:
1.Select Back Office > Help Tickets > Track.
2.Click either New Ticket or the Edit icon next to an existing ticket.
Note: If you are starting a new ticket, team selection lists do not appear until you select the
item.
3.Select the team and a team member from the Servicing Team lists.
If you select a servicing team but not a team member, the assignment defaults to the team head.
Tickets will remain Unassigned if there is no team head or the team head is removed. This means
that if you select a team without a head, the ticket is still classified as Unassigned; it does not
become Open or Pending. When a team is deleted, Destiny converts the Servicing Team assignment
to an Individual assignment, retaining the team member as the Individual.
4.Click Save.
Help Ticket History and Deleted Assets Report
The assigned Servicing team and member appear in the Help Ticket History and on the Deleted
Assets report.
To view Help Ticket History:
1.Select Back Office > Help Tickets > Track.
2.Click the Edit icon next to an existing ticket.
© Copyright 2014 Follett School Solutions, Inc.
26
3.Click the View History button.
Transfer Asset Items
The following occurs when transferring an asset item to another site:
• Help tickets assigned to a district servicing team will continue to be assigned to the district
servicing team. A district servicing team can be assigned to any item at any site.
• Help tickets assigned to an individual will remain assigned to the individual. Offsite patrons can
be assigned to help tickets.
• If a help ticket is assigned to a local servicing team and a member, both will be unassigned.
• A Help Ticket History item is created for each “unassignment.” That is, if the patron and team
were both unassigned, two entries appear in the History.
Merge Duplicate Patron Records
If you merge duplicate patron records and one of the records has the patron as a servicing team
head or member, the preferred patron record will continue to list the patron as the servicing team
head or member. If the patron record to be deleted has the patron as the head of a servicing
team, and the preferred record has the patron as a member of the same team, the preferred record
becomes the head of the servicing team.
Permissions:
Manage asset templates

Importance:
Servicing teams are more visible throughout Asset Manager. With the ability to add, edit, and
delete servicing team members, the Help Ticket manager can assign team members to help tickets.

New Destiny Training Toolkits
Do you know about all of the great new Destiny training toolkits? Your district can use the toolkits
to train new users, provide existing users with refresher workshops, or direct users to DIY learning.
Toolkits combine a lesson plan with supporting
videos and quick reference guides for a truly
blended learning solution. Lesson plans help
users focus on what they need to be able to
do in Destiny. Then, they learn how to perform
those specific tasks. Videos are approximately
five minutes long and aimed at every Destiny
user – students, parents, teachers and staff, and
librarians. The printable quick reference guides
contain step-by-step instructions, which you
can refer to during training or afterwards as a
refresher.
Lesson plans use the Plan/Apply/Assess
curriculum model:
• Plan: Users answer questions to find the
information they need to perform their roles.
For example, “Which users will you let manage
their own username and password?” and “Can
all students have the same access level?”
• Apply: With the help of a leader or trainer,
users complete the hands-on tasks in Destiny
that they targeted in the Plan section.
• Assess: Users complete an Assessment
Checklist to indicate specific tasks they are
comfortable with and ones they might need
more help with in the future.
Library Manager Essentials Lesson Plans, used
during your initial Library Manager training, help
you find and circulate library materials, build your
catalog, and report on library data. The Lesson
Plans include:
• Getting Started in Destiny
• Managing Patron Records
• Locating Resources
• Searching with Universal Search
• Circulating Library Materials Efficiently
• Building Your Catalog
• Configuring Library Manager for Your School
• Reporting on Library Data
