The Tahilla Ladies
Club held their annual Biddy Ball in aid of
The John Egan Memorial Fund in the
Sneem Hotel on Saturday night the 4th of
February. The evening was a great success with entertainment provided by the
Singing Jarvey. The
Tahilla Ladies Club
wish to thank everyone who supported
the event and thank
those who sponsored prizes for the raff le on the night. The total amount raised on
the night was €2,562.

Golf Putting Quiz
After some very exciting contests of the last f ew weeks, the Putting Quiz will
conclude this Friday night 17th February, when the semi-f inals and f inal will
take place in Sneem Hotel at 9pm. The semi-f inals will be contested between
John Damien O’S ullivan’s team who will be opposed by Brian Jones’s team
while Sean McCarthy’s team take on a team led by Jim Feeney. There will be
a raff le on the night with many spot prizes to be won and all proceeds go to
paying off the loan on the Community Cent re. Your support would be very
much appreciated.
Quilting Group

News2day. Declan was the lucky winner of a
competition to present the weather on the popular
children’s programme News2day broadcast daily
on RTE 2.

January to participate in Round 1
of the Debating Competition, the
Team were successf ul and went
on to Round 2 of the Debating Competition, travelling to Tralee on Friday the
10th February to debate against Tralee Educate Together Primary School. Unfortunately our School Debating Team lost out in Round 2.

Operation Transformation 10 at 10:
On Friday the 10th of February at 10am St Michael’s National School participated in the 10 at 10. The children engaged in a number of exercises and f itness
activities. 10 at 10 is an initiative run by Operation Transf ormation. Their aim is
to get every primary school child in Ireland to get active in a mass burst of physical activity.
Junior Entrepreneur: Kindle with Care
Junior Entrepreneur is an initiative to encourage children to start and run their
own business. This year the chosen product for Junior Entrepreneur is Kindle
with Care.
Kindle with Care is f ire kindling made easy. There are twigs/sticks in a bundle
tied with string. We will be selling 4 bundles for €1.
We will be showcasing our product on Wednesday the 22nd February at 1.30pm
in Sneem School.
We will also be selling Choco Spoons on the day, which is a novel way of making hot chocolate. Everyone welcome!!

the village in any way and does this on a Voluntary basis and needs rewarding.

A Night with Séan Keane
As part of our f undraising campaign for the 2017 season we are organising ‘A
Night with Séan Keane’ in the Sneem Hotel on the 27th of May. It promises to
be a night of good music and good craic. Tickets are €20 and are now on sale
f rom our club members. Doors open at 8.30pm and the show will start at 9pm.

Attention all men. We are looking f or 12 strong and willing men to get involved
in this year’s seine boat crew. If anyone is interested please contact a member

50/50 Draw
Congratulations to Teresa O’Donnell who was the lucky winner of this month’s
50/50 draw. We would like to thank everyone who entered the draw. The next
draw will be held in Sneem House on Friday the 3rd of March. Tickets are now
on sale f rom all club members and in various shops and bars throughout the
village.
100 Club Draw
We also held our 100s club draw f or the month of January and the winners

Kenmare & District Garden Club
It was decided to move the AGM to the f irst meeting of the year which took
place on Thursday, 2nd February and was well-attended. Af ter the reading of
the minutes of the 2016 A GM, the S ecretary’s report of the year’s events and
the Treasurer’s report, the current Committee was re-elected without change.
As a reminder, this year’s Committee is: Chairman - Neal Cahill; Secretary –
Geraldine Johnston; Treasurer – Coral Knowles; PRO – Rosemary Dixon;
Ros Green; Thérèse Hayes; Eva Kelleher; Stephen Austen.
Damien Flynn then gave us a short talk and demonstration on winter pruning
of roses, hydrangeas, laurel etc. The most important point to remember is to
open out the centre of the bush allowing good air circulation. This was followed by a f abulous slide show by Ros Green of the incredible cultivated and
wild f lowers seen on her recent trip to South Af rica.
Next month on Thursday 2nd March, Billy Alexander of Kells Bay Garden will
give a talk with slides on “A Plant Explorers Journal in Myanmar, November
2016”, with plants for sale. 7.30 p.m. at Gateway. In the meantime, on
Thursday, 23rd February 8 p.m. at The Carnegie don’t miss Mary Reynold’s
f ilm “Preparation f or the Chelsea Flower Show”.

Tahilla School
Grandparents Day 2017
On Friday February 3rd we were honoured to have the company of grandparents
at the school as part of Catholic Schools week. There was a lovely celebration
and the pupils participated with prayers, singing and music. The musical entertainment was enjoyable and much appreciated. There was tea and treats, stories
and f un and lots of laughter ! The guests were presented with St. Brigid's crosses
made by the pupils.
Sea Explorer Workshop
Marine biologist Lucy Hunt, Sea
Synergy Waterville presents the pupils with their certif icates on completing The Sea Explorer Workshop
which she hosted at the school recently.
She also brought an aquarium to the
school and the pupils have responsibility for managing it for six weeks.
Operation Transformation 10 @ 10
This year Operation Transf ormation teamed up with Active
School Flag, to promote physical activity in primary schools.
Any primary school that completed the Operation Transf ormation 10@10 on Friday February 10th that is in the process of applying for their active
f lag can use the f act they have
completed the 10@10 as a tick
towards gaining that very special blue active f lag, which can
f ly proudly outside in the school
yard. We walked to the pier and
had a f un workout there. There
are various physical challenges
and games taking place to promote activity throughout the
day.

Mock Wedding
The Mock Wedding was a resounding success. The Enterprise Project Team are gratef ul to those who supported the event on the
night also those who gave spot prizes. We are
also indebted for the support f rom Louis and
his staff in the Sneem Hotel. The hotel f acilities were given f ree and without such a venue
the event would not have been such a success. Acknowledgment should also be given
to those who made private donations towards
our project.
Special mention to our thespians who performed on the night Danny Healy Rae, Margaret Christian, Sonny Egan, Angela O’Regan, Pat O’Connor, Cait O’Shea Sheehan,
Denis O’Sullivan, Joan Egan, John Foley, Betty Breen, Batt Burns, Maidie O’Leary
and Julia O’Connor. The grand entrance made by our piper Eddie Mulcahy set the
tone for the evening and last but not least our Charlie Chaplin impersonator MC
John V. O’Sullivan, There were also a number of people who came dressed in
keeping with the theme (1950s ). Sr. Concepta (Olive Quinlan) acted as f loor manager on the night - very business-like, typical of a Mother Superior!!!..
The wedding was following by a dance with the music provided by the Singing Jarvey. The event raised over €6,000 on the night which will go towards the renovation of the Sneem Enterprise Centre.

The Chastitute
The Chastitute by John B Keane, Directed by Julia O Connor and staged by the
Kenmare Drama Group f or one night, Sunday 19th March at the Community Centre, Sneem. Main character bachelor f armer played by David O Dwyer (John Mc
Laine) , supported by stalwarts Noel Crowley and Padraig Rochf ord and many
other well known actors and actress within the Kenmare Drama Group.
15th Kerry Sneem Scouts
We had our f irst public meeting on Monday February 13th which
consisted of an overview of the Scouts for all the interested parents followed by registration of interest. Places are limited initially
to 18 Beavers and 18 Cubs and we hav e a nearly f ull group already which is great news. If you would like to register your interest please email [email protected]. Thanks to all for attending and we are looking forward to some great adventures.
Group members inf ormation:
Beaver Scouts: For ages 6-8 years, will meet on Thursdays 6-7pm during term
time. First meeting 2nd March.
Cub Scouts: For ages 9-11 years, will meet on Mondays 6.30-8pm during term
time. First meeting 6th Marc h.
Cost for both:
€25/20 (f irst child/additional child) per school term to cover membership, insurance etc.
€3/2 (f irst child/additional child) per meeting to cover f acilities.
Subsidised unif orm rental €20 (one off ).
Scouting Ireland have over 500 Scout Groups spread throughout the 32 Counties. It is the largest unif ormed Youth Organization in the Country with over
50,000 Members. It off ers over 200 diff erent activities f rom camping and hiking
to sailing and canoeing. Scouting helps 6-26 year olds grow in conf idence,
achieve their f ull potential and become active members of their communities.
We are very excited for this opportunity f or the youth of Sneem to get outdoors
and participate in self lead adventures. If you have any questions regarding

Introduction to the Internet, Kerry Flyer are providing the training. There will be f ive
two hour (or four 2.5 hour) sessions with training in the f ollowing subjects; Using
email, Search Engines and Websites, Online Government Services, Everyday
Trans actions - Shopping Online, Banking Online, Downloading Farming and other
Application Forms, Booking Flights, Trains etc. Social Media - Facebook, Viber,
What’s App etc. Using You Tube. Digital Photography - Uploading Photos to Computer and Editing Them.
This Class is Free of Charge and limited to 10 people per class. Laptops will be
provided but people can also bring their own laptops and tablets. Give your name
