Oral Exam 2 (Unités 1, 2, 3, 4, 5)

When?
• There are 2 days 1 devoted to the second oral exam (see syllabus for dates). Each student will be
given the day and time s/he must come to class. During the 2-day exam period, you need only
come on your assigned day and time. You do not need to come on the other day of that period.
• Every effort will be made to fit everyone in during normal class time. However, depending on the
size of the class, the instructor might have to make appointments with individual students outside
the normal class time/room.
• Once a day and time have been given to you, you are required to come on that day at that time.
Where?
In your usual classroom unless otherwise specified by your instructor.
How long?
The oral exam will last about 5 minutes.
How much is it worth?
The oral exams are worth 15% of your grade in FR 1110. You will be graded on what a student (who
prepared adequately) is supposed to be able to produce in FR 1110.
Grading:
You will be graded on your understanding of the questions asked, the fluency, the completeness of
your answers, as well as the correctness and richness of your French, and your pronunciation.
How to succeed?
Class time is your practice time: be very attentive and strive to volunteer often. It is highly
recommended that you practice the oral exam with a partner. Not only will it help you study better,
but it will also make it more enjoyable.
Important:
• The oral exam will be conducted entirely in French. Once the exam begins, it is in your best interest
to use only French.
• No notes are allowed.
• Your instructor might record your oral exam.
Procedure:
1. You will be asked to answer a few questions from the list below.
2. You will also be asked to answer a question that is not listed below. The question will be followup question to what you answered. For example if you mention in an answer that you love
Mexico, your instructor might ask: “Est-ce que vous parlez espagnol?”

Some English! Too many hesitations! No variety in sentence structure!):
Le professeur: "Quelle personne préférez-vous dans votre famille?"
L'étudiant: "Ma mère. Elle... est.... can't remember...sympathique! Elle est belle."
 Here is a sample of an excellent answer for B (Very complete, fluent, accurate and
without hesitations.):
Le professeur: "Est-ce que vous pensez que vous avez de la chance?"
L'étudiant: "Oui, je pense que j'ai de la chance parce que j'ai une famille gentille. Mes
parents sont patients et sympathiques. J'ai aussi de la chance d'être étudiant à Ohio
University parce que le campus est beau et les cours sont intéressants."
