I am applying to serve as Director of Marketing for Alpha

I am applying to serve as Director of Marketing for Alpha Kappa Psi Professional
Business Fraternity. I believe I have the ability to create and maintain the positive image the
Gamma Chi Chapter has enjoyed for many years. Having the opportunity to affect the image of
the Gamma Chi Chapter benefits not only our chapter, but also it’s members, other AKPSI
chapters, potential new members, and the business community. Because the Director of
Marketing has the responsibility of managing the image of AKPSI, it is important to consider
what AKPSI means to us and what values we want others to think of when they hear AKPSI.
Throughout my time in AKPSI, I have noticed the on-going support, friendliness, and
professional help members offer one another and the surrounding community. Each of these
qualities fits into the three pillars of AKPSI’s foundation. After relating each quality to a specific
pillar, I will discuss how I plan to market AKPSI both within and outside our chapter.
I most closely associate the word “support” with Philanthropy. Alpha Kappa Psi offers
many opportunities for brothers and Miami University students to give back to the community.
From a brother’s first moments in AKPSI, he or she is tasked with working on a pledge project
which benefits a community. For example, during my pledge project, my pledge class raised
money for the development of wells in underdeveloped areas of Africa. As Director of
Marketing, I would work to communicate the efforts and achievements of our brothers
throughout our chapter and community. Promoting the work and benefits we bring to our
charitable work will help recruit driven individuals who value philanthropy and providing real,
sustainable help to others. Posting pictures and discussing philanthropic events on social media is
an excellent way to continuously show AKPSI’s contributions to society and encourage more
members to participate. Staying up-to-date with all of the philanthropic events by posting
pictures and creating messages on Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter for the community and
brothers to read about would be one of my top priorities.
The second word that comes to mind when thinking about the Gamma Chi Chapter of
Alpha Kappa Psi is friendship or friendliness. The commitment our brothers have to one another
is unparalleled. Our willingness and desire to help and spend time with one another within FSB
and outside FSB is evident. Notice in the morning when walking into Farmer, the large number
of brothers crowded around our AKPSI table. Cumberland, Hocking Hills, the progressive
dinner, and parents weekend are a few of the unique events the Brotherhood committee has
created to foster a friendly and inviting environment for it’s members. As Marketing Director, I
would love to help create apparel for these events. Getting opinions and feedback from brothers
about the type of apparel and design will create apparel everyone would wear. I will make sure to
capture these moments through photography and videos. If I were elected as Director of
Marketing, I would document these events by attending them and taking pictures, I personally
enjoy photography and have a NikonD3100 camera. From the collection of photos and videos
captured at these events, it would be fun to create a photo and video collage for brothers to view
on Facebook.
Professionalism is the last pillar of AKPSI. East Bridge Consulting and the
Professionalism Committee offer a plethora of resources for brothers to grow professionally. I
would continue to recognize brothers who have had internships and received job opportunities by
posting a picture and having a caption discussing what they did or will be doing at a job. I think
it is important to have a shout-out bi-weekly to increase the awareness of all the different
opportunities available for other brothers and provide support for brothers looking for future jobs
or internships. Connecting brothers, their knowledge, and experiences is a primary goal.
I have several ideas for enhancing and continuously marketing the Gamma Chi Chapter
of Alpha Kappa Psi. If I were to be elected as the Director of Marketing, I would listen and
incorporate the ideas of others while working to ensure the unique opportunities offered within
the different committees are recognized.
Another position I am passionate about is Master of Rituals. I would like to be considered
for this position because I appreciate the traditions and values Alpha Kappa Psi is founded on.
If I were elected as the Master of Rituals, I would attend all of the necessary events and
wear the appropriate attire. Additionally, I would learn how to conduct the ceremonies and take
the events seriously.
During the Fall semester of my Sophomore year, I attended the B.L.U.E. Leadership
training event at Ohio State. During this event, I had the opportunity to interact with other
chapter’s Masters of Rituals. It was exciting to relate to these individuals because I could tell
how passionate and excited they were to promote and maintain the strong and important values
that define our brotherhood and the committees and members that promote those values within
the chapter and community.
I think the Gamma Chi Chapter is unique in terms of upholding the strong spirit of
brotherhood in which the “Brooklyn Four” had originally intended.
The Master of Rituals is an important position requiring a brother who will execute its
responsibilities. This position is particularly important for the initiation of pledges and ensures
they are imbued with the values and standards they must uphold as members of Alpha Kappa
Psi. The Master of Rituals creates a space pledges will recognize they are crossing over to
become brothers. While different committees and different Exec positions may come and go and
evolve with time, the Master of Rituals position is a constant. If elected, I will work to ensure
brothers uphold the traditions and values our founders instilled in our brotherhood through it’s
charter, traditions, and rituals.
