Leighton Buzzard Hockey Club Committee meeting Monday 7th December 2015 Location – Clay Pipe 7.45 for 8pm Start Members Present: Tommy Lakins, Dan Edwards, Peter Gale, Dave Canty, Katie Jackson, Dave Jackson, Fiona Grant, Nick Marshall, Tristan Hardy, Sarah Ayres, David Thompson, Suzy Mounter, Peter Crisp, Rhianna Baker • Apologies Jack Gorton, Tim Bellamy, Rachel Clarke, Kirsty Hardy, Roo Fielder, Clare Fitzboydon • Approval of last minutes Approved by TH Report & Actions to be taken • Matters arising NM- The pitch safety rules (as stated by Vandyke) have been post on Facebook to make members aware of them after several near misses. DC- Home teams should warm up on the far side of the pitch away from those who have finished playing and are leaving the dug out area. Subs due at the end of December. After December ₤155 for seniors, ₤80 for juniors after December There are lots of subs still outstanding. 33 men have paid, 23 ladies (3 part payments). 19 mens players have paid over 6 games and not paid subs, 27 ladies have paid over 6 games and not paid subs. DC to send out a list of outstanding membership forms to captains. RC/TL- Kit. Captains are to ask teams about poor quality kit. Refunds coming soon for socks. The hockey centre will potentially become to Vandyke with a printing press if the demand for re-printing is high enough. Future orders to be done through the Hockey Centres website. Junior Kit, away kit and Keeper's Smocks to be delivered the beginning of Jan. The mens 1st team tracksuit tops have been ordered. If captains need any items for their first aid kits they are to let RC know ASAP. RC is moving to Welwyn Garden City in the new year. TL- Umpires. KM had to umpire the mens 1st team rather than coach the team due to a lack of umpires. The majority of umpires for the club are in the mens 1st team which causes a problem when they play away. Captains to press their players about volunteers to take umpiring causes and to get those who have the qualifications to umpire. • Captains updates The mens 3rd team have been struggling with availability. PG- Food portions after games have been a little short. DE- to speak with clay pipe. FG- Ladies have been asking for hot drinks (tea/coffee) after games. TL to give the clay pipe the clubs tea urn. DE- Mens vets team struggling to find opponents for friendlies. TH- there is no affiliation fee for friendly games, ₤500 to affiliate to a league. SM- potential for some indoor sessions at Vandyke have been unable to be booked due to mock exams in the gym. SM to look into an alternate venue. • Juniors DT- Organising satellites schools with England Hockey and Appex 360. The sessions will be run at vandyke during the week with pupils from the local lower and middle schools. The children would then filter to LBHC juniors. To begin in Feb. There have currently been over 100 attendees at training. Juniors had their first indoor session and it was well received. At the Bedford hockey tournament LBHC finished with a silver for the U14's. Two LBHC junior GKs have been selected for the county A team. DT to work with Appex 360 to organise a hockey camp during school holidays (potentially easter) • Finance For full breakdown of the finances see hand out given out by TH. TH- More men have paid subs than ladies. Umpire cost now covers courses attended and payment to those who have umpired. Mens 3rd team payment outstanding from28/11/15. Captains to give all match fees to TH before christmas. Payment for teas needs updating as the club is now paying for these. The mens section is worse than the ladies (men owe- £233, ladies owe £103). TH to hand out new match return forms that now have umpire costs included. TH to contact umpires about receiving owed payments. • Social and Fundraising Socials TL- next social to be booked at the clay pipe for after christmas. KJ- Race night was poorly attended. Next social is the christmas party 12/12/15. 6.30pm start at the cricket club. Caroline Hill is doing the disco and ladies 2's to bring raffle prizes. Captains to push event with their teams. DC- More of the ladies first team need to attend the socials, as the money raised from the socials is paying for their coach. KJ- Volunteers needed to help with the santa float on 9/12/15. Sponsorship • Communications Sport in Profile magazine has approached the club about appearing in the magazine (delivered to 2,000 local schools and digitally sent to 10,000 businesses. TL- to send questions that the magazine want answering to the committee to respond. Oct newsletter out. Nov and Dec to be combined. Roo fielder do committee corner. • AOB TL- England hockey affiliation payed and nearly complete. TL- Business cards to be produced. DE- attended the beds county meeting. Their is the option of applying for junior funding. NM is now coaching the U17 boys county squad. JG to look into players interest in playing senior county. DE to do the same with masters. England hockey are looking at trialing 6-side leagues. AG- Met with the counsel about securing LBHC facilities. There has been a fall in demand from football teams so there is potentially land available for future development. The club need to create a business plan to progress forwards. The next meeting is 08/02/16. DC- The committee needs to start thinking about advertising the AGM and the roles available on the committee. PC- hopefully there will be some funding from the sports council for juniors or umpiring. SM- a friend is selling hockey themed christmas decorations that could be used to raise funds for the club.
