OUR MISSION The Representation Project inspires individuals and communities to challenge and overcome limiting stereotypes and gender norms so that everyone, regardless of gender, race, class, age, sexual orientation or circumstance can fulfill their human potential. POSITION OVERVIEW The Field Mobilization Associate implements the building of the movement to challenge limiting gender stereotypes through on-the-ground organizing with youth and their influencers. This person will identify, mobilize, and support students, teachers, and other youth influencers associated with schools and community organizations, such as coaches, parents, and mentors, to challenge gender norms in the classroom, on the playing field, in the community, and at home. Primary among their responsibilities will be to provide youth and their influencers with the tools, support, resources, and networks they need to challenge and overcome limiting stereotypes. In coordination with the Field Mobilization Director, the Field Mobilization Associate will maintain relationships with schools and youth organizations around the country and build new and exciting channels for youth and youth influencers to connect with each other and The Representation Project. The focus of the department will be on youth ages 14-25, teachers, and other adults in kids’ lives. This department will work cross-functionally with all other departments. PRIMARY DUTIES General: • Implement the movement to challenge limiting stereotypes through "onthe-ground" organizing • Attend strategic organizational events, screenings, and programmatic initiatives with the CEO/President and other staff, as necessary, to Page 1 of 4 connect interested individuals with organizational programs and campaigns • Establish connections and relationships with film audience members and participants to support their engagement in The Representation Project programming Adult/Educator Engagement: • Support the implementation of a vibrant and compelling teacher- and youth-influencer- engagement program. Work to identify and mobilize teachers and other adult influencers on youth such as coaches, parents, caregivers, and mentors who can disseminate the message of The Representation Project • Work with schools, educators, and youth influencers to ensure The Representation Project’s educational curricula are being used effectively and incorporates best practices in learning and technology • Support the implementation of a train-the-trainer curriculum for adults, educators, and other youth influencers Student/Youth Engagement: • Support actively engaging youth in implementing The Representation Project’s action tools through such tactics as creating The Rep Project Chapters • In coordination with field mobilization department, support The Representation Project’s outreach to youth globally, including the inaugural youth summit in August 2016 • Help increase The Representation Project’s understanding of what motivates youth to engage actively in the movement Curriculum and Content Development: • Support the field mobilization director in collaboratively creating, updating, and distributing new educational resources as necessary for teachers, students, and other adult influencers on youth. Examples of resources include guides detailing best practices for teachers, parents, employers, caregivers, mentors, and coaches, as well as curricula, discussion guides, blogs, and toolkits • Prepare quarterly reports and analytics around performance to be shared with internal stakeholders such as the staff and board Page 2 of 4 QUALIFICATIONS The Field Mobilization Associate is a natural leader with experience in education, field organizing, and mobilizing diverse communities. This person is educated and proficient in understanding gender norms and gender as a social construct. This person is a sharp critical thinker, highly organized, energetic, capable of working independently, motivated and motivating, a strong volunteer manager, able to manage and analyze data, and able to connect effectively with both adults and youth. This person will spend 50% of their time travelling and in the field. • Undergraduate degree with two to five years of directly applicable, relevant organizing, movement building, curriculum, and educational experience • Commitment to promoting gender equity. Deep understanding of how gender, race, class, age, sexual orientation, and circumstance intersect. • Knowledge of and experience with training educators and other youth leaders • Background in schools, social emotional learning (SEL), and media literacy • Experience and confidence with customer relationship management (CRM) tools (e.g. Salesforce) and spreadsheets (e.g. Excel) • Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Copy editing and design experience a plus • Outstanding organizational, technical, and clerical skills with a high level of attention to detail • Has an outgoing and vivacious personality and truly loves motivating and supporting others in making change • Demonstrates a “can do” attitude and a proven track record of taking projects from start to finish while meeting deadlines • Ability to maintain the highest degree of confidentiality regarding all aspects of work • Willingness to take direction and embrace a collaborative spirit • Ability to maintain composure, flexibility, and a sense of humor under tight deadlines • Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously, prioritize activities, and be flexible in adjusting expectations as new developments occur Page 3 of 4 HOW TO APPLY Please email [email protected] with your cover letter and resume and the job title as your subject line.
