NCCO Green Report - National Checking Company

Green Report to the Industry
Doing our part for the planet.
Recycling Efforts
For years, NCCO has worked to optimize its recycling processes. As a company that produces quality paper and disposable products
for restaurants, NCCO realizes the huge impact its manufacturing processes can have on minimizing its overall footprint. 99.9% of all
inbound paper is either sent out as finished product or recycled. In addition to exemplary paper recycling efforts, NCCO Register Roll
cores are made with 100% recycled plastic and pallets are constructed with 81% recycled material and can be reused or recycled.
Green Fuel
NCCO’s Green Fuel Waste
Reduction program turns
waste into pellets that can
be used as a heating source.
This has allowed us to decrease the amount of waste
entering landfills by 220,000
tons annually.

BPA Free
Sustainability isn’t always a matter of waste reduction or energy
efficiency and NCCO’s BPA-Free thermal RegistRoll® initiative is
a perfect example of that. BPA stands for bisphenol A. which is a
chemical that has been used to make certain plastics and resins.
NCCO partnered with its suppliers and has transitioned all thermal
paper to be 100% BPA free.

Sustainable Sourcing
Sustainable Forestry
Initiative (SFI)
Our paper
comes from
suppliers
who are promoting sustainable forestry management and
responsible purchasing of forest
products. For a supplier to be
SFI certified, they must pass an
audit conducted by an independent third party that shows
they “acquire wood from known
and legal sources, conserve
biological diversity, and promote
socially sound practices.” For
more information about SFI, visit
http://www.sfiprogram.org/.
The Forest Stewardship
Council (FSC)
Our paper suppliers promote environmentally sound,
socially beneficial and economically prosperous
management of the world’s forests. FSC certification is
considered the most rigorous certification available and like SFI
certification it requires an audit of current practices along with
developing a plan to become compliant with their standards.

Optimizing Processes
Internal Energy
Efficiency
The NCCO operations team has made significant energy efficiency
increases in the last few years. By reconfiguring and utilizing LED
lighting, NCCO has reduced the energy needed to light one facility
by approximately 33%.
NCCO mainly utilizes electric forklifts in both its warehouse and
manufacturing facilities and also replaced its HVAC system with a
high efficiency system.

Distribution Efficiency
NCCO has optimized its distribution process by streamlining and utilizing efficiency
opportunities. In doing this,
NCCO has been able to reduce
its diesel fuel emissions by
approximately 5%. NCCO is still
able to maintain a 99.5% fill
ratio, meaning customers can
always count on NCCO products arriving within 48 hours
with less energy used to get
them there.
