WHAT IS THE
PANCREAS?
The pancreas is an organ found behind the stomach
and in front of the spine. It is about 6 inches long and
shaped like a thin pear lying on its side.

Enzymes
in the pancreas
help to break down
food. Hormones such
as insulin and glucagon
control blood sugar levels.
In this way the pancreas
helps the body to use
and store energy
from food.
