Environmental Hazards

Agricultural Use Requirements
Usethisproductonlyinaccordancewithitslabelingandwiththe
WorkerProtectionStandard,40CFRpart170.ThisStandardcontains
requirementsfortheprotectionofagriculturalworkersonfarms,forests,
nurseries,andgreenhouses,andhandlersofagriculturalpesticides.It
containsrequirementsfortraining,decontamination,notification,

andemergencyassistance.Italsocontainsspecificinstructionsand
exceptionspertainingtothestatementsonthislabelaboutPersonal
ProtectiveEquipment(PPE)andrestricted-entryinterval.The

coveredbytheWorkerProtectionStandard.

Non-Agricultural Use Requirements

isusedtoproduceagriculturalplantsonfarms,forests,nurseries,or

Entry Restrictions for Non-WPS Uses:Forapplicationsonrangeland
andpermanentgrasspastures,donotenterorallowworkerentryinto
treatedareasuntilsprayshavedried.
Storage and Disposal
Donotcontaminatewater,food,feedorfertilizerbystorageordisposal.
Pesticide Storage: Ifthisproductisexposedtosubfreezingtemperatures,
theactiveingredientmaycrystallizeandsettleoutofsolution.Under
theseconditionstheproductshouldbewarmedtoatleast40°Fand
agitatedwelltodissolveanycrystallizedmaterialpriortouse.
Pesticide Disposal: Wastesresultingfromtheuseofthisproductmay
bedisposedofonsiteoratanapprovedwastedisposalfacility.

Itispermissibletotreatnon-irrigationditchbanks,seasonallydry
wetlands(suchasfloodplains,deltas,marshes,swamps,orbogs)and
transitionalareasbetweenuplandandlowlandsites.GrazonNextcan
beusedtothewatersedge.Donotapplydirectlytowaterandtake
precautionstominimizespraydriftontowater.
Resistance Management Guidelines
•Developmentofplantpopulationsresistanttothisherbicidemode
ofactionisusuallynotaproblemonrangeland,permanentgrass
pastures,orCRP,sincethesesitesreceiveinfrequentpesticide
applications.
•Similarlookingbiotypesofagivenweedspeciesoccurringinatreated
areamayvaryintheirsusceptibilitytoaherbicide.Applicationofa
herbicidebelowitsrecommendedratemayallowmoretolerantweeds
tosurviveandashifttomoretolerantbiotypeswithinthetreatedarea.
•Whereidentified,spreadingofresistantweedstootherfieldsmaybe
preventedbycleaningharvestingandtillageequipmentbeforemoving
tootherareasandbyplantingweed-freeseed.
•Contactyourextensionspecialist,certifiedcropconsultant,orDow
AgroSciencesrepresentativeforthelatestresistancemanagement
information.

haylage baylage and green chop unless allowed by
supplemental labeling.
•Do not move hay made from grass treated with
GrazonNext within the preceding 18-months off farm
unless allowed by supplemental labeling.
•Do not use hay or straw from areas treated with
GrazonNext within the preceding 18-months or
manure from animals feeding on hay treated with
GrazonNext in compost.
•Do not use grasses treated with GrazonNext in the
preceding 18-months for seed production.
•This product is not intended for reformulation or repackaging into
other end-use products.
•Maximum Application Rate: Donotbroadcastapplymorethan
42 floz(2.6pints)peracreofGrazonNextperyear.Thetotalamount
ofGrazonNextappliedbroadcast,asare-treatment,and/orspot
treatmentperyearmustnotexceed42floz(2.6pints)peracre.Spot

broadleafcroporotherdesirablebroadleafplants,including,butnot
limitedto,alfalfa,cotton,drybeans,flowers,grapes,lettuce,potatoes,

otherbroadleaforvegetablecrop,fruittrees,ornamentalplants,orsoil
wheresensitivecropsaregrowingorwillbeplanted.Avoidapplication
underconditionsthatmayallowspraydriftsinceverysmallquantities
ofspraymayseriouslyinjurecrops.ReadandconsiderthePrecautions
forAvoidingSprayDriftandSprayDriftAdvisoryattheendofthislabel
tohelpminimizethepotentialforspraydrift.
•GrazonNext is highly active against many broadleaf plant species.
Donotusethisproductonareaswherelossofdesirablebroadleaf
forageplants,includinglegumes,cannotbetolerated.
•Chemigation: Donotapplythisproductthroughanytypeofirrigation
system.
•Do not contaminate water intended for irrigation or domestic
purposes.Donottreatinsidebanksorbottomsofirrigationditches,
eitherdryorcontainingwater,orotherchannelsthatcarrywaterthat
maybeusedforirrigationordomesticpurposes.
•Donotapplythisproducttolawns,turf,ornamentalplantings,urban
walkways,driveways,tenniscourts,golfcourses,athleticfields,
commercialsodoperations,orotherhigh-maintenance,fineturfgrass
areas,orsimilarareas.
•Applicationsmadeduringperiodsofintenserainfall,tosoilssaturated
withwater,surfacespavedwithmaterialssuchasasphaltorconcrete,
orsoilsthroughwhichrainfallwillnotreadilypenetratemayresult
inrunoffandmovementofthisproduct.Injurytocropsmayresultif
treatedsoiland/orrunoffwatercontainingthisproductiswashed,
ormovedontolandusedtoproducecrops.Exposuretothisproduct
mayinjureorkillsusceptiblecropsandotherplants,suchasgrapes,
soybeans,tobacco,sensitiveornamentals.Donottreatfrozensoil
whererunoffcoulddamagesensitiveplants.
•Treesadjacenttoorinatreatedareacanoccasionallybeaffectedby
rootuptakeofGrazonNextthroughmovementintothesoil.Donot
applyGrazonNextwithintherootzoneofdesirabletreesunlesssuch
injurycanbetolerated.Usespecialcautionnearroses,andleguminous
treessuchaslocusts,redbud,mimosa,andcaragana.
•Crop Rotation: Donotrotatetocroplandforoneyearfollowingan
applicationofGrazonNext.Cerealsandcorncanbeplantedoneyear
aftertreatment.Mostbroadleafcropsaremoresensitiveandcan
requireat least2yearsdependingonthecropandenvironmental
conditions.Donotplantabroadleafcropuntilanadequatelysensitive
fieldbioassayshowsthatthelevelofaminopyralidpresentinthesoil
willnotadverselyaffectthatbroadleafcrop.
•Seeding grasses:
- Preemergence:Grassesmaybereseededinthefallfollowingan
applicationofGrazonNextappliedinthespringorearlysummer.
- Postemergence:Duringtheseasonofestablishment,GrazonNext
shouldbeappliedonlyafterperennialgrassesarewellestablished
(havedevelopedagoodsecondaryrootsystemandshowgood
vigor).MostperennialgrassesaretoleranttoGrazonNextat
thisstageofdevelopment.GrazonNextmaysuppresscertain
establishedgrasses,suchassmoothbromegrass(Bromus inermis),
especiallywhenplantsarestressedbyadverseenvironmental
conditions.Plantsshouldrecoverfromthistransientsuppression
withtheonsetofenvironmentalconditionsfavorabletograssgrowth
anduponreleasefromweedcompetition.
•Seeding Legumes: Donotplantforagelegumesuntilasoilbioassay
hasbeenconductedtodetermineifaminopyralidresiduesremainingin
thesoilwilladverselyaffectthelegumeestablishment.
•Grazing and Haying Restrictions: Therearenorestrictionson
grazingfollowingapplicationofGrazonNextatlabeledrates.Do
notharvestforageforhaywithin7daysofGrazonNextapplication.
Cuttinghaytoosoonaftersprayingweedscancompromisetheweed
control.Wait14dayspriortocuttinggrasshaytoallowformaximum
herbicideactivity.Donottransfergrazinganimalsfromareastreated
withGrazonNexttoareaswheresensitivebroadleafcropoccurwithout
firstallowing3daysofgrazingonanuntreatedpasture.Otherwise,
urineandmanuremaycontainenoughaminopyralidtocauseinjuryto
sensitivebroadleafplants.
•Grazing Poisonous Plants: Herbicideapplicationmayincrease
palatabilityofcertainpoisonousplants.Donotgrazetreatedareasuntil
poisonousplantsaredryandnolongerpalatabletolivestock.
•Restrictions in Hay or Manure Use:
- Donotusetreatedplantresidues,includinghayorstrawfromareas
treatedwithinthepreceeding18-months,incompost,mulchor
mushroomspawn.

- Donotplantabroadleafcropinfieldstreatedinthepreviousyear
withmanurefromanimalsthathavegrazedforageoreatenhay
harvestedfromaminopyralid-treatedareasuntilanadequately
sensitivefieldbioassayisconductedtodeterminethatthe
aminopyralidconcentrationinthesoilisatlevelthatisnotinjurious
tothecroptobeplanted.
- Topromoteherbicidedecomposition,plantresiduesshouldbeevenly
incorporatedinthesurfacesoilorburned.Breakdownofaminopyralid
inplantresiduesormanureismorerapidunderwarm,moistsoil
conditionsandmaybeacceleratedbysupplementalirrigation.
•Field Bioassay Instructions: Infieldspreviouslytreatedwiththis
product,plantshorttestrowsoftheintendedrotationalcropacross
theoriginaldirectionofapplicationinamannertosamplevariabilityin
fieldconditionssuchassoiltexture,soilorganicmatter,soilpH,rainfall
patternordrainage.Thefieldbioassaycanbeinitiatedatanytime
betweenharvestofthetreatedcropandtheplantingoftheintended
rotationalcrop.Observethetestcropforsymptomsofherbicidal
activity,suchaspoorstand(effectonseedgermination),chlorosis
(yellowing),andnecrosis(deadleavesorshoots),orstunting(reduced
growth).Ifherbicidalsymptomsdonotoccur,thetestcropcanbe
grown.Ifthereisapparentherbicidalactivity,donotplantthefieldto
theintendedrotationalcrop;plantonlytowheat,foragegrasses,native
grassesorgrassesgrownforhay.
Sprayer Clean-Out Instructions
It is recommended that separate spray equipment be used on highly
sensitive crops such as tobacco, soybeans, peanuts, and tomatoes.
DonotusesprayequipmentusedtoapplyGrazonNextforother
applicationstolandplantedto,ortobeplantedto,cropsordesirable
sensitiveplants,unlessithasbeendeterminedthatallresiduesofthis
herbicidehasbeenremovedbythoroughcleaningofequipment.
EquipmentusedtoapplyGrazonNextshouldbethoroughlycleaned
beforereusingtoapplyanyotherchemicalsasfollows.
1.Rinseandflushapplicationequipmentthoroughlyafteruse.Dispose
ofrinsewaterawayfromwatersupplies.
2.Rinseasecondtime,adding1quartofhouseholdammoniaortank
cleaningagentforevery25gallonsofwater.Circulatethesolution
throughtheentiresystemsothatallinternalsurfacesarecontacted
(15to20minutes).Letthesolutionstandforseveralhours,preferably
overnight.
3.Flushthesolutionoutofthespraytankthroughtheboom.
4.Rinsethesystemtwicewithcleanwater,recirculatinganddraining
eachtime.
5.Spraynozzlesandscreensshouldberemovedandcleanedseparately.
Spot Application: Spottreatmentsmaybeappliedatratesequivalentto
broadcast-appliedrateofuptoamaximumof84floz(5.2pints)on50%
ofthetreatedfield.Sprayvolumeshouldbesufficienttothoroughlyand
uniformlywetweedfoliage.Repeattreatmentsmaybemade,butthe
totalamountofGrazonNextappliedmustnotexceed42floz(2.6pints)
peracreperyear(seecommentsintheUsePrecautionsandRestrictions
sectionaboveonMaximumApplicationRate).

Mixing with Sprayable Liquid Fertilizer Solutions
GrazonNextisusuallycompatiblewithliquidfertilizersolutions.Itis
anticipatedthatGrazonNextwillnotrequireacompatibilityagentfor
mixingwithfertilizers;however,acompatibilitytest(jartest)shouldbe
madepriortomixing.Jartestsareparticularlyimportantwhenanew
batchoffertilizerorpesticideisused,whenwatersourceschange,
orwhentankmixtureingredientsorconcentrationsarechanged.
Compatibilitymaybedeterminedbymixingthespraycomponentsinthe
desiredorderandproportionsinaclearglassjarbeforelargescalemixing
ofspraycomponentsinthespraytank.Useofacompatibilityagent
isrecommendedtohelpobtainandmaintainauniformspraysolution
duringmixingandapplication.Note:Thelowerthetemperatureofthe
liquidfertilizer,thegreaterthelikelihoodofmixingproblems.Mixing
GrazonNext in N-P or N-P-K liquid fertilizer solutions is more difflcult
than mixing with straight nitrogen fertilizer and should not be attempted

Use Rates and Timing

GrazonNextapplicationwilldependuponapplicationrate,seasonof
application,andgrowingcondition.
GrazonNextcanprovidelong-termcontrolofweeds.Thelengthof
controlisdependentupontheapplicationrate,conditionandgrowth
stageoftargetweeds,environmentalconditionsatandfollowing
application,andthedensityandvigorofcompetingdesirablevegetation.
Long-termbroadleafweedcontrolismosteffectivewhereforagegrasses
areallowedtorecoverfromovergrazing,drought,etc.,andcompetewith
weeds.
GrazonNextcanbeanimportantcomponentofintegratedvegetation
managementprogramsdesignedtorenovateorrestoredesiredplant
communities.Tomaximizeandextendthebenefitsofweedcontrol
providedbyGrazonNext,itisimportantthatvegetationmanagement

Broadleaf Weeds Controlled
