Romans 1:1-7
Introduction
Paul writes to the Christians in Rome
while he was in his third missionary
journey in Corinth. Paul did not
establish a church in Rome. In fact,
he had not been in Rome but most
probably had learned about the faith
of the Jewish Christians there from
Aquila and Priscilla who he met in
Corinth (Acts 18:1-2). He does not
mention a specific church in Rome
but may have referred to individuals
or several churches. These
individuals are mostly composed of
Gentiles but also include Jews. Paul
starts with reminding them about
the gospel. As Christians in the 21st
century with the proliferation of
liberal ideas from social media and
the pressures of this world, it is quite
common to get “spiritual amnesia”,
forgetting who we really are. We
need to be reminded as well of who
we are in Christ.
an apostle and set apart for the gospel of
God— 2 the gospel he promised beforehand through his prophets in the Holy
Scriptures 3 regarding his Son, who as to his
human nature was a descendant of David,
4 and who through the Spirit of holiness
was declared with power to be the Son of
God by his resurrection from the dead:
Jesus Christ our Lord. 5 Through him and for
his name’s sake we received grace and
apostleship to call people from among all
the Gentiles to the obedience that comes
fromfaith. 6 And you also are among those
who are called to belong to Jesus Christ.
7 To all in Rome who are loved by God and
called to be his saints:Grace and peace to
you from God our Father and from the Lord
Jesus Christ.
