Most furniture and cabinets use what is called
“overlay” construction – doors and drawer
headers are in front of the cabinet’s face frame,
and are slightly larger than the openings in the
frame, so they overlap or “overlay” them.
Inset cabinets are fundamentally different.
Inset doors and drawer headers are fitted inside
the face frame in a precisely-sized opening. As
you can imagine, this requires a higher level of
precision craftsmanship in the manufacturing
process. Because of this, inset has always
carried high-end, high-dollar connotations.

Unique inset features:
•Inset wall cabinets are 13” deep -- rather than
the standard 12” depth -- to allow more interior
space. You can specify 14”-deep inset wall
cabinets at no extra charge.
•All Showplace inset styles are available with
your choice of beaded or flush inset styling.
Beaded inset door and drawer openings have a
beaded perimeter which adds visual distinction,
as shown at left. Flush inset does not have the
beading, and is a sleeker, cleaner look more in
keeping with Mission themes. See the examples
below.
•Inset doors and headers are manufactured
with a gap of approximately 3/32” on all sides.
Changes in humidity and temperature can cause
this gap to change over time. This is normal and
to be expected.
•You have several hinge options that are unique
to inset. You can choose a concealed hinge
with an optional soft-close feature. For a more
historical look, you can instead select a visible
finial hinge in a range of metal finish choices.
•Some interior accessories are not offered in
inset due to the limited clearance of the inset
opening. Talk to your Showplace designer
for full details.
