Th e Lu b a t ri b e b e l i eve d t h a t t h e connecti on
between the mortal world and that of the
spirits is found through vessels. The “waisted”
design is one common amongst designs in the
Democratic Republic of Congo and Uganda.
A benefit of this design is how it lifts the
p i e ce, c re a t i n g a d i m e n s i o n of p ri or i ty a nd
importance. It also serves a practical purpose
of e n s u ri n g t h e ves s el i s n ot e a s i l y knocked
ove r o r d i s t u rb i n g i t s co n te n t s .
