program. Although the client was eager
to incorporate a large-scale fireworks show
on the river, this was impossible due to
Shanghai government restrictions.

CHINESE EXPERIENCE
Group Size: 200 delegates
The brief
Provide a comprehensive Chinese experience
for delegates, including a variety of activities
ranging from sidecar motorbike tours to
cooking classes, visits to the Shanghai World
Financial Center and more.
Challenges
The large variety of optional activities required
Destination Asia to coordinate complex
transportation services in order to maximize
scheduling flexibility for the client.
To provide an alternative to a large-scale
fireworks display, Destination Asia proposed
and subsequently executed a thirty minute
commercial for the client on the side of the
Aurora Building – a 185 meter skyscraper
overlooking the Bund area. Advertising on
this building is managed by a governmentcontrolled ad agency, and it fell to
Destination Asia to conduct a series of
intense negotiations to secure the best
possible terms on behalf of the client.
In the end, the participants were wowed with
an eye-catching commercial display seen by
thousands of people. A few days following
the successful completion of the program,
Destination Asia received a glowing letter
of appreciation from the client who praised
the team’s coordination and management
skills, professionalism, and the work ethic
exhibited in order to fulfill their large-scale
requests. Most importantly, they highlighted
the overwhelmingly positive feedback
received from a large number of
attending delegates.
Execution
Destination Asia conducted research across
the city to secure their best providers and to
create new activities for the group.
A main objective was to build activities and
sightseeing programs that could transcend
cultural differences and form bonds between
participants from different countries.
EVENT: TRANSCENDING
CULTURAL DIFFERENCES
IN BURMA
Group Size: 400 delegates
The brief
A global technology corporation requested
four nights in Yangon consisting of cultural
exploration, pampering and dining, with
separate tours operating simultaneously for
splinter groups.
Challenges
This is the largest group ever handled in
Burma, with the client requesting multiple
tours running simultaneously. A major
challenge was to find a spectacular venue
for the final night’s dinner and party.
Running several tours simultaneously,
we worked with over 20 guides per day
during the 5 days. Activities included a food
donation for over 1,000 monks, a private
cooking class with a local market visit,
an introduction to meditation and a heritage
walking tour of Yangon.
For VIP guests we organized a day return
trip to Bagan and a private audience with
the Yangon Heritage Trust founder, who is
responsible for protecting and renovating
colonial buildings in the downtown area.
The feedback from the client was extremely
positive, commenting on the deep,
meaningful and profoundly cultural
experience each delegate encountered.

Special arrangements were made for the largest ever group Destination Asia Burma had
facilitated in Burma, to offer donations at Kalaywa Monastery in Yangon. The 200 visiting
delegates were divided into 20 manageable tables consisting of 5 people each, with
differing food items placed on them.
The delegates then jointly place the items into each monk’s bowl as they passed by the
tables. The group’s participation in this event is valued by the monastery, as it allows the
young monks and novices to enjoy a meal without having to undergo the daily ritual of
walking through neighboring communities to collect alms.

The Majestic Theatre, Malaysia
Capital M offers delegates exceptional dining with iconic views of Beijing. From its
breathtaking terrace to the atmospheric dining room, European cuisine of the highest
standard is served as diners admire panoramic views of Tian'anmen Square,
the Forbidden City and Qianmen Gate.
The Majestic Theatre Penang is located in the historical UNESCO Heritage center of
George Town. The theatre was abandoned in 1980 before developers restored it into the
contemporary multi-purpose event space available today. Two event spaces cater for both
small intimate gatherings and large groups.
Available areas include The Bar, The Dining Room or the surrounding garden
terraces – each boasting exceptional views.
Hin Bus Depot, Malaysia
The Hin Company Bus Depot is a former bus depot located along
Jalan Gurdwara (former Brick Kiln Road), in George Town, Penang.
A recent gala dinner was inspired by the street art and laneways of
Penang, creating an environment where delegates could appreciate
the timeless charm of the city. A center stage was lit with LED
lighting, audio and visuals, making a great impact as delegates
entered the garden. Following a cultural dragon dance, guests
proceeded to the dining area for a sumptuous buffet dinner served
from hawker stalls.

Spanning 9,000 square feet on the highest two floors of The National Gallery, Aura is a
vibrant new dining destination in Singapore, introducing four unique wine-and dine
concepts since its opening on 1 October 2016.
Architect Kenzo Takekoshi’s most famous work is the Osaka City Official Residence,
a prestigious building based on a modernist design where a number of previous prime
ministers and foreign VIPs were invited. This sophisticated, historic western-style building
has been reborn as The Garden Oriental Osaka, Osaka’s newest party venue.
Aura features commissioned sculptural arts from Singaporean artists
and award-winning museum furniture pieces.

Garuda Wisnu Kencana (GWK) Cultural Park is located in Ungasan, Badung Regency.
With a 23 meter tall statue of Garuda Wisnu as its main attraction, GWK Cultural Park
boasts one of the largest artistic masterpieces ever created in Indonesia’s art history.
Clients can illuminate the vast surrounding natural walls of the Lotus Pond area

move through the impressive galleries. Following a tour of the

Highlights include the Zen-like ‘Gallery of a Thousand Buddhas’,

religious beliefs and cultural history of Cambodia.
Built next to the Chao Phraya River in 1908 by the son of King Rama V, Chakrabongse
House is set amid a quaint landscaped garden with hundreds of mature trees and plants.
The house is richly decorated with original antiques and Thai furnishings.
Cruise along Southeast Asia’s largest river while enjoying traditional local cuisine
complimented by magnificent open air views of rural Laos. Departing from the ancient royal

The Sumiyoshi Grand Shrine, Japan
Sumiyoshi Taisha or Sumiyoshi Grand Shrine, is a Shinto shrine in
the Sumiyoshi ward of Osaka. It is the main shrine of all the
Sumiyoshi shrines in Japan and one of the oldest in the country - its
history dating back to the year 211 AD. Use of the grounds of the
shrine is not allowed, but there is a large banqueting hall
and reception area presenting views of its beautiful grounds.

Theam's House, Cambodia
Boasting a convenient and impressive location on Victoria Harbour at Central Pier No.8,
the non-profit Hong Kong Maritime Museum is a registered charity supported by the Hong
Kong Government and the Hong Kong shipping industry.
Theam's House is the home and atelier of the Cambodian artist and designer Lim Muy
Theam. Located in a lush tropical garden, the traditional wooden house is divided into
many areas, each full of inspirational works of art.
The museum houses more than 5,000 artifacts and is comprised of 15 galleries.
