Welcome
to our first quarterly
newsletter.
After an eventful few
months, we wanted to put together a
summary of the people, places and fun
new things that have given us so much
enjoyment this summer. Not put off by
the British weather ǁĞ͛ǀĞ visited
gardens, zoos and museums alike.
tĞ͛ǀĞ picnicked and cream tea-‐ed and
bowled and strolled our socks off. Here
are just some of our best bits͙
Mini Battenburgs and lakeside walks were the
order of the day at Wellington Country Park.
We spent a happy afternoon wandering the
grounds, some of the keener walkers among us
taking the on the big lake while the rest of us
braved the dinosaur pit. One of our residents
remarked on how the deep aquamarine water
made her ͞ĨĞĞů ĨƌĞĞ͟. It was a memorable day.
In Pet Corner we give a
warm
welcome to our
furry new friends; Cheeky
Chops, Alice and Millie the
guinea pigs and LJŶƚŚŝĂ͛Ɛ
kitten, Julio. Julio currently
has dibs on cuteness but the
guinea pigs love a good
cuddle.
Our eagerly anticipated trip to Marwell Zoo was
a ͚ƌŽĂƌŝŶŐ͛ success͙ all of the animals came out
to play and many of us took the road train
around the whole park! Some ĚŝĚŶ͛ƚ want to
come home (and tried hard to blend in).
Our entertainers have also kept us moving this
summer. Vic Cracknell (pictured) had us on our
feet time after time, and we experienced
something new with Millie Cook whose
participatory sessions inspired everyone to join in
in their own way. Check out our Facebook page
for our all singing, all dancing videos.
From ballroom to bowling balls, Basingstoke
Bowlplex have seen our skills more than
once in recent months. tĞ͛ƌĞ getting so
good we might have to think about an Old
Raven House kit! Move over Mike Mullin!
(ok, I Googled him. Suggestions welcome͙)
New to our programme since
September are Old Raven
House Coffee Mornings.
We provide the coffee and
copious cake and
invite
relatives and members of
the public to
join our
residents for chats and games
and the occasional raffle. We held the
most recent one on World ůnjŚĞŝŵĞƌ͛Ɛ Day
and raised £78 for the ůnjŚĞŝŵĞƌ͛Ɛ
Society! Our next coffee cup social will be
held at the end of October so keep an eye
out for signs around the home.
Afternoon
tea
on
the
Watercress Line was as glorious
as it looks. The scones were
delicious and loaded with
clotted cream and the tea was
on tap as we took in the views in the perfect sunshine. These eager beavers
took Busy Buddy Anna along for a closer look at the front of the steam train.
As you can see, ǁĞ͛ǀĞ been busy. I
ŚĂǀĞŶ͛ƚ even mentioned our numerous
trips to Trilakes to feed the animals, or
our stroll through Saville Gardens to
see the azaleas and rhododendrons.
We spent a very wet but interesting
afternoon playing the penny arcades at
Milestones and reminiscing our way
through the old, cobbled village. As
usual ǁĞ͛ǀĞ always found any excuse to
get out and about even if only for a
game of boules in the park or a wander
up to Hook village. As the colder
weather sets in we have started making
plans for our winter events calendar
and we are already looking forward to a
Frank Sinatra tribute concert and
Robert Mays Tea Dance. In house ǁĞ͛ůů
have plenty going on so keep an eye
out for sing songs and cosy nights in,
our fireworks display being the first of
many. Follow us on Facebook to keep
up to date with everything ǁĞ͛ƌĞ doing.
We look forward to seeing you soon.
