North Carolina United Soccer Association P.O. Box 928 Welcome, NC 27374-0928 Minutes from NCUSA Board Meeting 10/2/2012 Attendance: John McGovern, Carlos Bosch, Donna Myers, Gayla Ware, Tim Dezego, Dr Rajan, Chris Forsyth, Mark Temple, Mark Davis, Alan Myers, Rob Simons, JJ Cullens, Tasha Lanier, Sean Coogle, 2 members whose names aren’t known. Meeting was called to order by John McGovern who asked for minutes from last meeting to be read. Gayla Ware read the minutes and several minor corrections were made and the minutes were then approved. John then asked for Alan Myers to give an update on the land development deal for the new soccer complex. Alan stated the City of Lexington is drawing up a lease agreement but that they seem to be dragging their feet a little on the paperwork. Alan met with the City Attorney last week and asked what we could do to expedite the process. He was told the land must be surveyed before we can complete the lease agreement. Negotiations are in the works as to who pays for that. Alan wants to recommend that the City pay half of that and the club pay half. Alan will keep us updated on the land at each meeting. John then stated that we need to decide on a club mascot and address the submissions that had been turned in. The submissions were as follows: Puma, Storm, Thunder, Stars, Cougars, Catamounts, Wildcats, Panthers, Jaguars, Prowlers, Lynx, Ocelots, Strikers, Mustangs, Explosion, Vipers, Cardinals, Bobcats, Leopards, United. It was immediately decided that any name that was already being used by clubs close in proximity to ours would be eliminated first. Then names that were used by colleges, pro teams and well known would be eliminated. The remaining names were discussed and those in attendance were broken into small groups to decide their top 5 choices. Table 1: United, Thunder, Prowlers, Vipers, Bobcats Table 2: Mustangs, Lynx, Jaguars, United Table 3: United, Grimace Table 4: Thinder, Mustangs Table 5: Thundercats, United, Prowlers, Lynx The results were tallied from each table and United won by 1 vote, Thunder was 2nd, and Mustangs/Prowlers were 3rd. North Carolina United Soccer Association P.O. Box 928 Welcome, NC 27374-0928 It was then discussed what prize would be given to the winner(s). John wanted all entrants to be given something for their submission. Carlos suggested a gift card to the Soccer Shop. Carlos was nominated to speak to Jason Brenner from the Soccer Shop and discuss prize options for the mascot entrants. Vice President had nothing to discuss Treasurer: Donna Myers gave an update on the account balance for the NCUSA bank account. She stated that Alan Myers, former DCUSA President, transferred 16,400 from the DCUSA account to the NCUSA account. Current balance after transfer is 38, 498.14 Donna stated that there are a lot of players who have not paid their club fees. The total that is owed is 28, 047. It was decided that anyone who is more than one month behind would have their player card pulled until they are current. The Booster Clubs were discussed. Only 3 Booster Clubs have paid NCUSA what they owe. D.T. and S. Davidson have agreed to pay now that they have received their bill. Reeds, Welcome, Churchland, Midway still owe. The total owed between them is 33,400. Their parents have paid them but they still aren’t paying us. They have all been sent registered letters but they have been returned. Alan stated we have to find a way to get the bills in the hands of those who are currently running each booster club before we take further action. The Presidents of each Boosters was mentioned and a way to contact them discussed. Next a question was raised about insurance for the booster clubs who are under NCUSA. Chris Forsyth stated that the Booster Clubs are covered by insurance effective Sept 1st. Donna will begin billing the booster clubs now so if there are any discrepancies they can get it straightened out by the spring. Discrepancies such as a ref not showing up, they will get credit for it. The Spring players need to pay their fees before they can play in any tournaments. John must manually enter the data to give the coaches the info regarding which players are behind on their payments. Registrar: Chris Forsyth North Carolina United Soccer Association P.O. Box 928 Welcome, NC 27374-0928 All Classic/Challenge teams are registered for the fall. NCUSA Rec players/booster clubs. He is working on getting them entered into the state data base. They wont let us do it for our club. Probably has to do with licensing issues. The Rec teams will have spread sheets instead of rosters. DOC’s: Tim Dezego- There is a tournament in Concord –the Carolina Shootout if any teams are interested in playing we will get a group rate for 5 or more teams. Greg Beall-absent Rec DirectorField Closings- All Booster Clubs will send their field info to John McGovern/Rob Simons so they can update website. Decisions for field closings will usually be made by 7am Saturdays and 10am on Sundays. There is a delay from when the update is submitted and when it is received by everyone. John and Ralph will make the call to close Challenge/Classic field without the coaches input. The coach can call if they want but it isn’t required. The point was brought up that the website field closings need to match the text/phone updates. The Rec season began with some difficulty. Referees need to be rescheduled –especially on Tuesdays- due to high school games. Linwood/Southmont Soccer field is getting lights! Anyone who wants to attend the “grand re-opening” of this event is invited. Purchasing Director: Nothing to report Josh Brown brought up NCUSA participation in Christmas Parades, Midway in particular. He said he has had several parents ask about their teams being in it. John stated that no “team” could be in a parade independently. He said that NCUSA could be in the parades but it would need to be in an official capacity. He stated that Gayla Ware has volunteered to be the point person for this and look into the details. It was decided that a NCUSA was needed for events such as these and Carlos Bosch would find out about a banner. It was suggested that a committee be formed to work on this. North Carolina United Soccer Association P.O. Box 928 Welcome, NC 27374-0928 Next John stated that we are copyrighting the NCUSA club logo. No one can use this logo without approval from the NCUSA board. John asked for other business: Alan Myers stated that the DCUSA website needs to be removed. Mark Temple stated that the rules/regulations need to be transferred to the NCUSA website. Rob Simons said he will take care of that. Next Gayla Ware brought up the fact that NCUSA has been invited to some high school Community Days. She felt that a protocol needed to be established in regards to how to handle this. We as a club have players from all over the county and city and we need to be fair in how we respond to these invitations. It was decided that when we receive an invitation it will be put on the website and a group email will be sent. We as a club will inform the members but we will not endorse one over another. The YMCA announced it was closing and everyone must leave. A motion to adjourn was made and seconded. Meeting adjourned. Respectfully Submitted 11/13/2012 Gayla Ware NCUSA Secretary
