The Rome of the Day All the News Romans Need to Know 378 A.D. Rome Shocker, Another War!!!!!! By: Ryanis Kirschnis Ok, so we are about to fight the Adrianople War which will start around 378 A.D. I am on the Romans side and we are fighting against the Goths. If we didn’t fight this war, the Roman Empire and the Role of Cavalry would probably not be here today. The leader of the Romans allowed the Goths to enter the empire if they turned in their weapons. We had them under our watch when they decided to enter and they obeyed and everything so far was working out pretty good. It didn’t even seem like a war because they listened to us. When we were in the empire, we discovered these people named the Huns. Huns were true barbarians who had no written language. This stinks because if we ever saw something that might have been the Huns, we would have no idea what it meant and that would have been a disadvantage for us. We were able to make saddles and this was to our advantage because it was actually a more effective weapon and helped us be more attractive against our enemy. Back flash, when we were letting the Goths come into our Empire, we also gave them food for their trust not to rebel against us. To try to get even for trust, we had to invite the kings and nobles for a huge feast because well who doesn’t like food, and we need all the trust that we can get. If we would give up the province of Thrace, we would have peace but they still said no. The Romans were going to sneak into the Goths land, but my best friend who was in the war with me shot an arrow. The Goths of course shot back and we had to run because we didn’t want to lose anyone if we fought back. We ended up fighting back late and sadly, 40,000 soldiers died and so did Valens. This unfortunately, was the worst defeat of the Romans in 600 years. This was the beginning of the end for Rome!
