register
Issue 158 (Scotland) – 17 November 2016
Electoral registration: publication, access and supply of the
electoral register
As you know, EROs are required to publish the revised register
by 1 December 2016, unless there has been an election during
the canvass, in which case publication of the register may be
postponed up until 1 February 2017. You can find guidance on
the publication of the revised register, including all the relevant
deadlines, in chapter 5 of Part 3: The canvass of our guidance
for EROs.
You can find our guidance on access and supply in Chapter 12
of Part 4 of our guidance manual for EROs.
We have also updated our resource summarising who is entitled
to receive a copy of the electoral register as follows:


the UK Statistics Authority – a change to the contact
name for supplying printed copies
the Parliamentary Boundary Commission for England – a
minor change on how to provide the data copy
EROs supply the register to the National Library of Scotland and
the British Library. The British Library has indicated that it has
revised the guidelines which are available on our website, set
out how the British Library would like the printed and data

December 2016 registers – collection of electoral data
As in previous years, the Electoral Commission is planning to
collect data on the autumn canvass and the December 2016
electoral register.
We are working with the Electoral Management Software (EMS)
suppliers to ensure that the data is as easy as possible to
extract. We expect that in each case an automated report will be
available within your system which will extract the data we will
request.
Information on how to generate the relevant report will be
provided to you by your EMS supplier. We will also be in touch
directly at the end of November to provide further details on how
the data should be returned to us.
