Contents Electoral registration: publication, access and supply of the electoral register Issue 158 (Scotland) – 17 November 2016 Electoral registration: publication, access and supply of the electoral register As you know, EROs are required to publish the revised register by 1 December 2016, unless there has been an election during the canvass, in which case publication of the register may be postponed up until 1 February 2017. You can find guidance on the publication of the revised register, including all the relevant deadlines, in chapter 5 of Part 3: The canvass of our guidance for EROs. You can find our guidance on access and supply in Chapter 12 of Part 4 of our guidance manual for EROs. We have also updated our resource summarising who is entitled to receive a copy of the electoral register as follows: the UK Statistics Authority – a change to the contact name for supplying printed copies the Parliamentary Boundary Commission for England – a minor change on how to provide the data copy EROs supply the register to the National Library of Scotland and the British Library. The British Library has indicated that it has revised the guidelines which are available on our website, set out how the British Library would like the printed and data versions of the register to be supplied to them. Candidates’ Local Government Election Expenses) (Scotland) Order 2016 These will have effect for elections on or after 4 May 2017. The Convener of the Electoral Management Board for Scotland has also issued her directions for the May 2017 polls, which are available here. We will review and, where necessary, update our already published guidance to reflect the confirmed legislation and the Convener’s directions. We will notify you through a bulletin once this has been completed. December 2016 registers – collection of electoral data As in previous years, the Electoral Commission is planning to collect data on the autumn canvass and the December 2016 electoral register. We are working with the Electoral Management Software (EMS) suppliers to ensure that the data is as easy as possible to extract. We expect that in each case an automated report will be available within your system which will extract the data we will request. Information on how to generate the relevant report will be provided to you by your EMS supplier. We will also be in touch directly at the end of November to provide further details on how the data should be returned to us.
