Summer Reading Journal Assignment
Keep a typed journal as you read your novel. Every 25 pages or less complete a journal entry. The
journal entry should start with a significant quote from the text and include the page

interpreting how the quote applies to the theme of the novel and how it fits into the plot.

Summer Reading ADEPT Assignment
- Choose one character from your summer reading book and write one (1) ADEPT
paragraph about that character’s most obvious characterization.
o Paragraph should be typed and in MLA format. Make sure to save your work
electronically for future use.

Simple Example:
A: Anna from Disney’s Frozen proves her bravery throughout the movie.
D: Despite her lack of life experience, she is not afraid of meeting new people.

doors to the palace, Anna jubilantly sings, “They’ll be actual real live people!”
(Lopez).
P: Anna does not let her limited social life impact her bubbly personality. She
perseveres and looks to being back out in society as a fun challenge.
T/D: Similarly, Anna is not afraid of physical challenges.
