Message from legislator: Having family members in law enforcement, I understand that you have a job
and a responsibility that you take with you wherever you go. You have a career that you can’t walk away
from and you know that you are the thin line between order and chaos. During this Legislative Session, it
was my honor to be able to work with you, the members of the Special Risk Class, to secure your salary
raise and to offer the amendment HB 7011 to include an additional death benefit for members. My
amendment provided that your employer must purchase a life insurance policy equal to 10 times your
salary. Additionally, the insurance policy must be purchased from a state term contract, must be
guaranteed issue, and must provide level premium rates for the term of the policy. The amendment
provided that this death benefit is in addition to the benefit provided in current law. While the issues
involving FRS will be raised again, I look forward to continuing to work with you over the summer and
during the 2014 Legislative Session. Thank you for your service and dedication to our community.
