Must participate in the on call roster May be required to assist in operating theatres where terminations of pregnancies are performed. Statement of Key Responsibilities/Duties (group into major areas of responsibility/ activity and list in descending order of importance) As a senior member of staff, the following duties will be undertaken: • May be required to set up, program and operate machinery, equipment or recording systems which could include computerised systems • Undertake staff appraisals on an annual basis with junior staff • Assist in the implementation or review local policies and procedures • Provide assistance and guidance to junior staff • Assist in the provision of on the job training • Assist with emergency restraints or threats within the Health Unit When allocated to undertake duties inside the Theatre, the following duties will be undertaken: • Maintenance, cleaning, safety checking and preparation of Theatre equipment including but not limited to positioning equipment, tourniquets, electro-surgery equipment, monitors, cameras, microscopes, plaster trolleys, insufflators, extra trolleys and hand tables etc. required for scheduled procedure in consultation with Operating Theatre team. • Preparation and adjustment to operating table and associated attachments • Position patient in consultation with Operating Theatre team after anaesthetic induction. • Apply patient diathermy plate in consultation with Operating Theatre team and verbally confirm the site of the plate. • Connect diathermy leads and verbally confirm power settings with Registered Nurse and Surgeon. • • • • • • • • • • • Assist nursing team to prepare and maintain suction. Position equipment appropriately and connect as directed by the Operating Theatre team. Collect blood as necessary Contact pathology, then take urgent specimens to entrance, and give to pathology collector. transporting and transferring patients, preparing beds to receive post-operative patients, change linen as necessary Assist surgical team as required. At end of procedure bring patient bed into theatre and assist Operating Theatre team with the transfer. Transport patient to recovery ward ensuring oxygen cylinder is available. Assist with change over procedure including mopping of floor, removing of rubbish and linen. Carry out maintenance and cleaning programs including: Walls, windows, vents and lights; electro-surgical units and accessories; operating tables and accessories; medical air hosing; tourniquet cuffs and bladders; clippers, shavers and stimulators; suction equipment and filters. Participate in internal and external training programs as directed. Other associated duties as required and directed in accordance with relevant Award. When allocated to undertake duties outside of the Theatre, the following duties will be undertaken: • Collect authorised patients from wards. • Remove rubbish bags and linen bags from change rooms, workrooms, peripheral corridors, etc. • Deliver and collect items from various Hospital Departments including Materials, Biomedical Engineering Services, Pharmacy etc. • Participate in internal and external training programs as directed. • Other associated duties as required and directed.
