This week your child read captions in a
reading passage. Help your child choose
pictures from a magazine or newspaper and
write captions to explain the pictures.
Have your child write each of these spelling
words: blaze, space, fine, race, late, mice, nose,
page, size, huge, rice, vote. Help your child draw
pictures to illustrate each word.
Write these words: everywhere, live, machines,
move, work, world, woman. Take turns picking
a word and using it in a sentence. Try to make
the seven sentences tell a story.
Your child identified the main idea and
supporting details in a story. Read a comic
strip with your child. Ask what the comic was
all about. Have your child give two details
about the comic.
Write these words: snake, slice, fine, robe, cube.
Have your child read each word and name
another word with the same vowel sound.
Here are ways to help your child practice
skills while having fun!

How to Make a Space Suit
by Jeff Star
It is easy to make a space suit. First, get
an old pair of pants and a jacket from your mom
or dad. Put on the jacket and pants and wrap
some thick tape around your pant legs and
sleeves. That will keep you warm. Next, put
on your bike helmet to keep your head safe.
Wear some snow boots if you have them.
Now you are all set to go to space!
2. Underline the things you need to make a space suit.
3. Circle the part of the suit that you put on first.
4. Circle the words below that tell what the text is about.
