Summer Term 2016 Year 3
Water, Water, Everywhere!
This half term, we will be investigating how water affects people,
places and things. This will include looking at what happened to
the Titanic and moving on to explore some of the features of
rivers and what people use rivers for. We will learn about famous
rivers, including the River Nile.
English – Newspaper reports
on the Titanic; Letters to
authors (we are reading ‘Mr
Stink’ and will be writing to
David Walliams this half
term); instructions;
Egyptian adventure stories.
Science – Plants – what they
need to live and grow; Rocks
and Soils including how they
were used in Ancient Egypt.
Maths –Mental addition and
subtraction; measuring and
problem solving.
PSHE –Keeping safe around
water.
PE and Games – Gymnastics; tennis
and athletics.
Please make sure your child has
games kit (including trainers) in
school on a Wednesday and PE kit
(including trainers) on a Thursday.
History – Egypt – Life in Ancient
Egypt, including pharaohs;
pyramids; Egyptian gods and the
Nile.
Geography – Investigating the
features of rivers and famous
rivers.
Music – Learning the recorder;
Summer concert preparation.
Out of Egypt
Next half term we will explore
what life was like in Ancient
Egypt, including how they used
the River Nile, Egyptian
numbers and hieroglyphics.
ICT – Internet safety; Using
computer programming to
create Titanic animations;
Sending and receiving emails.
French – Months, days, animals
and basic conversation.
RE- Pilgrimage including Hindu
pilgrimage to the River Ganges;
The Exodus, looking at Moses
and the Israelites escaping
Egypt.
Art – Creating carved and
constructed sculptures; making
papyrus and drawing
hieroglyphics.
Homework – Please make sure you sign your child’s homework each week on their ‘front sheet’. Don’t forget
that spellings, maths facts practise and reading to an adult are also part of each week’s homework.
Date for the diary- Friday 6th May, the children will present work from this half term, including their
work on the Bronze Age completed during our residential trip. The display will be open from 2:30-3:00pm
Your child’s targets can be found on the interim reports you received towards the end of last term. As a
class, we are particularly focussing this term on adding and subtracting mentally with increasing speed
and accuracy and using speech marks with correct punctuation.
